TTC: Major Operational Issues (Various)

74 and 88 on diversion all day because of a ravine fire under St Clair Ave E bridge last night

Wonder if reactive clearing of other encampments in vegetated areas will result

I know they have to close it to do their due diligence, but how likely is it that a fire could structurally damage a bridge of this size such that it has to actually be closed for structural repairs?

It's absolutely possible. If the fire was big enough that they had to evacuate houses nearby, then it was obviously quite substantial.

Based on a glance at NextBus, it looks like TTC is routing 88 route buses over the damaged bridge but eastbound only. The westbound is via Davisville rather than Merton which probably suits most people who are trying to get to the subway anyway

Confirmed, per the TTC's website

Edit: also the 74

FWIW, the St. Clair SB to Summerhill one doesn't seem that significant. Feels like normal-ish speed.

Bloor NB to Rosedale, by contrast, is a crawl.

This is open in both directions now. Not sure if this happened yesterday as I didn’t check then

Who wants a good laugh today?

Sunday July 27 at 4pm, 20 minute wait time for those heading to Vaughan because the TTC apparently cant space trains properly now.

(Also to add, wait times from Union heading northbound to Finch have also been quite abysmal during the partial weekend shutdown of the University line since they cant optimize train turnbacks either from St.Andrew apparently either).:

If you thought that was bad, you should see what Spadina streetcar station looks like. Absolute chaos….I meant would it hurt to install some ropes so people can form single lines? It’s literally like watching sheep being herded into the barn….I didn’t even bother and just walked to College instead.

IIRC they had them at one point. My memory is fuzzy but I think they had them years ago.

The removal may have had something to do with the design of the station.

Unlike Union which has always had separation, Spadina wasn't designed for it.

I remember saying years ago on reddit I waited 15 mins for a train (no service suspensions ongoing) and people accused me of lying since it's supposedly every 5 mins off peak 😂

it's not great for mobility but it looks cool IMO

To be fair, walking from Bloor to College will be just slightly slower than taking the streetcar even if you don't have to wait for the streetcar. Add in any sort of real wait, and you're pretty quickly better off walking.
