TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I'm pretty sure the Toronto Star has brought up the QC issues before...oh here it is:
https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...out-bombardier-streetcar-quality-control.html

He outlined numerous complaints with the company’s handling of “quality notifications,” which are notices Bombardier is supposed to issue to the TTC whenever it encounters manufacturing deficiencies so that the issue can be tracked and rectified.

Quality notifications can flag cosmetic issues like scratched paint, or more serious flaws like missing or damaged parts. Depending on the severity of the problem, the TTC can opt to take delivery of the car and fix the imperfection at a later date.

According to Nugus’s email, in some cases Bombardier failed to write quality notifications before it sent cars to the TTC for preliminary acceptance, or wrote notifications “long after” a vehicle had already been shipped.

He wrote that it was evident the company was also failing to invite transit agency officials to meetings to discuss specific manufacturing problems, and was approving the use of “nonconforming” parts in vehicle builds.

Just saw a picture on the Facebook group "Rocket-Riding Memes for Toronto-Oriented Teens" of 4447's pantograph which is really really badly mangled (absolutely destroyed). Evidently it was testing on the 501 when it happened.

Edit: here it is (not my picture)

When overhead gets destroyed, can it be restrung - say overnight - in time for rush hour the next day? If an incident like this ripped out a city block, say 506 from Logan to Carlaw, how long to repair that?

Like most things … 'it depends'. Were poles damaged too? Are new hangers required? is it tangent (straight) wire or at an intersection? etc etc. A few years ago they completely rewired King from about York to Church in a couple of overnight sessions but in this case they could check poles and hangers etc before removing the old and installing the new.

4447 was running back to the yard for a change-off - it had been in service on Spadina earlier - and the operator forgot to drop the pantograph. It caught the specialwork at Parliament, and brought down a bunch of it.

It brings up the question of why the TTC hasn't expediated the OCS upgrades. It seems like they've actually slowed down on converting the whole system to the point of leaving a hodgepodge system. Can't wait for news that the TTC has forgotten to fully convert the system and doesn't know which parts of it has been and have not been upgraded.

Geee!! How did they miss this sign thats is hung on all eastbound tracks just before the first stop light east of Spadina. There supposed to be other locations, but haven't seen them yet??

If it was an issue with the pan deploying in route, that another issue.

This is what happens when the the conversion is push down the road doing a Peter to pay Paul case.

What's the date for full conversion?

They are moving onwards. King & Church was finished a couple of weeks ago and they are getting ready for King & Parliament (marks for new poles were there last week and the new poles may be up now. See Steve Munro's site at https://stevemunro.ca/2018/02/22/problems-with-trolley-shoes-on-flexity-cars/

The latest plan (on Steve's site is apparently as below but this says King/Church in 2019 and it's done so they may actually be ahead of things..
