TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

A turntable is but one option, sure. But they also require a lot of land in one single location (you need to consider the length of the cars that will be using it), and a lot of maintenance to keep the thing turning.

A wye is another, and was much more common back in the "good old days". They have their own set of problems.

A loop is the most-efficient way from a headway standpoint, as it allows for the minimum amount of time between cars. No turning or reversing movements are required.



Generally double-ended equipment will have door controls for both sides at each operating station. It allows for more flexibility, and the ability to have "off-side" platforms.

Pshhh. Next you're going to tell me that we can run these "streetcars" underground automatically and with wide stop spacing. Kids these days with their schmancy technology.

Don't forget about how Dallas doesn't have snowfall consistently exceeding six inches during the winter.
 
TTC Leslie Barns folks will have a new cars to work on come Thursday.

Been seen and shot at Dixie & Dundas of 4414 heading to the Barns by truck of all things. Only been 299 days since it was loaded for QC

That is an odd location to transfer a car from flat to truck. Or did it happen in Brampton??

Since Hillcrest is close due to Bathurst work, only can delivery by truck at this time.
 
4408 has re-enter service on 504 (BRBS) after being here 42 days. Been 315 days since it was loaded for QC.

This beats the 49 days for 4400 and 4407, with the other cars seeing 70 plus days so far.

Took a lot of extra time after the testing was done to get the car ready for service, otherwise would have been less that 40 days. Let see if any of the other cars can break the 42 day in service mark.

it was loaded at Hillcrest on July 09, 2020 and slowly making it way to La Pocatiere Quebec For Welding Issues At this rate, May 2021 is when TTC will sees the car again, considering it taking 300 plus days from loading to off loading.

It been 474 day since TTC last saw 4471 and 574 days since TTC last saw 4478 when shipped to NY. Both cars been in Thunder Bay since last fall. They were supposed to be shipped early 2020, and July not close to early.

4414 is currently at Hillcrest having VISION install in it. Once complete, it will reenter service in the following days. It looked like it was ready the last 2 weekend as it was sitting on the in service track in the yard. Looks like it will be the fastest to reenter service at this time or by Aug 11.

With 4414 out of the way, the shop can work getting other cars back into service as well bring cars up to BBD requirements.

4471 & 4478 must have taken a back seat given how long they been in TB with Metrolinx cars being first since there is $$ in back charges if they fail to met Mextrolinx timeline compare to TTC cost.

Aug 27 will mark the 2nd year for the 2 cars when they last saw service and 556 days so far for 4478 been off site. If 4478 shows up next week, it could reenter service late Sept after having VISION install.

TTC may see 4411 first in 2021 since it was loaded for QC on May 05, 2020 and 300 days put it around March 2, 2021. 4509 would be next and could be seen March 3, 2021 follow by 4515 around March 23, 2021.
 
4409 was off loaded at Hillcrest Friday and the fastest turn around of any car sent to QC. It only took 147 days and beats BBD 19 week turn around. Sounds like the car bypass Kingston where extra time is added for been off site,

With this short turn around, will TTC spending more time getting the car ready for service compare to other cars so far??

4414 still at Hillcrest and would have been the fastest car to reenter service if it was for the fact of having VISION install in it.

If other cars sent to QC can see this faster turn around, TTC will have all cars ready for service than the current rate of 2026.

I noticed a typo for the flood damage cars as it should had been Aug 7, not Aug 27. 2 years and counting since the 2 cars last saw service.
 
Any speculation on to what the hold up could be on them?
The only thing I can think of its a make work project with a small crew and Metrolinx cars been at the front of the line since they have a higher back charge per car than what TTC had in their contract. Since there is no back charge involved with these cars and TTC not really needed them due to low ridership, they will show up when they show up. They have already broke the record for being out of service the longest to date.
 
Would that make it a ram tram?

Reminds me of a few (obviously synthetic) 'fur' covered cars I recall seeing in the '70s; my memory wants to say Ford. I am unable to find any reference to them and am wondering if it was a local promotion or something by a dealership or body shop.
