Ontario Supporting First University Campus In York Region

Ontario is investing in a new York University campus in Markham--the first university campus in York Region--that will expand postsecondary education opportunities for students and families and help equip students with the skills they need for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Michael Chan, MPP for Markham--Unionville, was joined by Steven Del Duca, MPP for Vaughan, and Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak Ridges--Markham to make the announcement today at the Markham PanAm Centre.
The new university campus will serve an estimated 4,000 students in York Region, with the potential for more students over time. The campus will offer a broad range of business, arts and social science-related programs, and provide students with opportunities for research, experiential learning and collaboration to help them prepare for the highly skilled jobs of the future.

- Ontario is investing $127 million to build the new York University campus in Markham.
- Following an open call for proposals, York University's proposal to build a Markham-Centre Campus was selected in May 2015 by the province.
- The City of Markham is the fourth-most populous community within the Greater Toronto Area, York region's most populous municipality and Canada's 16th largest city.
- The new Markham campus will be located north of Highway 407 between Kennedy Road and Warden Avenue in York Region.
- Research shows that every $100 million of public infrastructure investment in Ontario boosts the gross domestic product by $114 million, particularly in the construction and manufacturing sectors.
