Artist error.

The signs should be 28 and 29 respectively, not 26/27 and 28/29
 
I take it that they are removing the second most southerly track so that they can fit the new platform in? I just don't see any space otherwise. This would mean that any freight passing through will now just trundle through a free track in the station, instead of bypassing it to the south.

My understanding is that there is very, very little freight movement through Union today anyway. I have never seen a freight train, that is for sure.

There used to be a westbound train around noon, but haven't seen it for over a year or so. Then I am not around the area that much these days.
 
The only regular freight train at the moment is a roadswitcher that goes thru late in the evening. It's short and the new platforms won't interfere with its passage.

One hears rumours now and then about possible new train patterns to and from the car plants in Oakville and Oshawa that would benefit from a downtown route, but I'm sure GO would not allow these at peak hours, or anytime in the daytime really.

Great, thanks. [Love those toronto.ca URLs.] Unless my memory is faulty, these are also new to me. Particularly the views of the Great Hall showing the new destination monitors above the VIA counters and the historically-accurate looking info booth plus clock in the centre of the hall.

BTW: I note in the pedestrian flow simulation there is a corridor that looks to me like the old Royal York walkway.

And that's just the GO side - who know what's going to happen with Waterfront Transit reset as well. Wish they could have been a little more future oriented from the start.

To be fair, though, works such as TTC second platform, concourse renos, and Great Hall restoration were the most impactful to customers. Other fixes w̶i̶l̶l̶ should be more minor. Electrification may be a wildcard depending on staging and logistics.
 
Today I notice they have removed the white tarpaulins from the scaffolding on the east wing along Front Street. It looks to me as though they still have to clean the stone but assume they can do this from the uncovered scaffolding. They have also got prepared to add a bit more concrete to the 'floor' of the east moat nearer Bay Street. Inching along!

I wouldnt count on lobbing this one in with the rest, since Waterfront transit is "reset" every 10 years and nothing ever happens.
