Toronto Top 20 Under Construction List

Question: is the Adelaide & John 42-floor development currently under way or not? We are currently seeing archaeological excavation of the old basements/foundations on the site, similar to what happened at the Shagri-La -- but does this constitute 'construction' excavation?

If it does, this building would make the list.

Does anybody have an opinion if 295 Adelaide West (see post #16 on this thread) has started or not? I need to establish some general guidelines on when exactly a given project qualifies to be on this list. I personally am inclined to say 'no' in this case, but am willing to be convinced otherwise.
 
You could call it site prep ('scraping'?). That way it would cover things like 1BE, which started without ever actually having started.
 
When I walked by this morning they had levelled out all the dirt and filled in the old foundations. Doesnt look like its starting just yet.
 
IBE was exactly why I am reluctant to include 295 Adelaide West. Granted, projects can be halted at any point in the construction process (see Success 2 and the earlier Bay-Adelaide 'stump'), but it surely must be easier to delay the start of excavation than it is to actually halt construction once it is under way.

On another note, I read the following in this post by caltrane74 at SSP:

L Tower is a bit more difficult to place because even though its technically under construction its work is being done inside the Hummingbird center with some demowork on the exterior but no shoring and excavating as this will be built over the existing building, so our system of not marking constructing till the shoring rigs appear may not work in this case...

So based on this I am going to include the L Tower on the list (unless given a reason not to currently include it -- this is another difficult case).

This is mentioned in numerous places on the Aura thread. This post is one. THere is also at least one transcript of a newspaper story somewhere in the thread.

On a related note, I had missed the official height increase to 252m. I will change the information on the list to match.

Thanks for making/updating this list, it really puts things in perspective.

I remember reading somewhere (probably a post by caltrane74, so he should know this) that the Absolute World towers are actually taller, like 178m & 160m?
 
Have added Ice I and II, since several hole-diggers are at work on site. In any case, full-scale excavation is only days away. Also re-listed 33 Bay at 50 floors.
