November 4 - Backfilling of the area where the foundations and basements of the Front Street buildings were demolished and removed, to provide a stable, flat base for the shoring rig - already on site

Ongoing site preparation activities at Portland Commons - the Bobcat is moving earth from the work being done by the building over to the excavated area for backfill, and the crane by the building is continuing the preparation for the Hydro duct and the underground connection between the new and already existing buildings.

The main shoring activities are due to start the week of November 15.

Lots of site preparation work going on. Equipment on site includes:

  • One Shoring Rig
  • One Excavator
  • One Hydrovac excavator
  • Two Bobcats
  • One Bulldozer
  • One Roller
  • One Backhoe

For a second I was hoping it was a dance crew video. That would easily make it the best groundbreaking ever, not that the bar has been set high.
 
Shoring work is proceeding quickly now - the pile of earth removed from the shoring columns is now quite impressive. Normally the ground excavated from the shoring columns is trucked away on a progressive basis - but for now it seems to be just accumulating at the south end of the site.
