Mississauga Mississauga Transitway | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | IBI Group

^ East Transitway is the most important because of direct connection to the Eglinton LRT, to the airport, and to Malton to reduce its isolation because TTC doesn't bother providing any service there (and you all know what's been happening in Malton in recent years, don't you?).

Higher order transit is planned along both Dundas and Hurontario (including another of Hazel's pet projects, the Hurontario LRT, ever heard of it?) so honestly all these complaints about lack of BRT being built along a street is just pointless.

The West Transitway is pretty terrible. The stations are set far back from the streets, the buses spend an eternity circling on and off of highway ramps, and there are virtually no connections to the local buses.

That's because it isn't completed and not fully in use yet. Yes, it's limited because it doesn't extend past Erin Mills but it will work just fine

The East Transitway is amazing.
Welcome to "Car City", a city built for cars with no thought of Transit, Cycles and most of all, "Pedestrian". Peel Transit was voted down when Peel was form.

What the TransitWay was to look like back in the 80's, 90's and the EA 2004, is only haft of what it was supposed to be. NIMBY and the rising cost of the full TransitWay is what we are left with of the 2004 EA plan.

There is supposed to be a north service Rd between 403 and Mavis Rd along the 403 with the TransitWay up to Duke of York and then tunnel to the city core.

You may live long enough to see "ALL" the missing links built as well into Halton and Toronto. It was plan for in the 70's and taken almost 45 years to built the 1st section.

Starting in 2017 when it finally fully open, all MT bus routes will service these station including 110 that they currently run past these days. Route 100 will not start service until 2018 due to funding issues.

Ridgeway was supposed to be the last west station with flyover to the 403 and has been removed from the plan. I stand to be corrected, but the parking lots were to be smaller than what there now.

There were to be walkways to the streets north of the station for both cycles and pedestrians, but none I have seen so far.

This is what you get for building in Hydro Corridors that people keep saying that should be built there in the first place. The wrong way.

That's a shame, they're removing the washrooms? For $3.5 million they could just expropriate the NIMBYs and rezone it as something more appropriate.

It does seem like a lot. Expropriate and turn their lands into a park and pedestrian access for the entire subdivision, without requiring pedestrians to walk out to Erin Mills to get the bus.

They are doing more than removing washrooms

Ten-foot cedar fences will now be constructed between the homes and the station; the north roadway that was being improperly used by bus drivers now has height restriction bars, making it accessible to cars only; the operations building that was blowing ventilation from the washroom into residents’ backyards is being pushed back five metres and the washrooms are being removed; 14-foot trees are being planted between the homes and the station; and lighting is being significantly reduced.

All of those are downgrades that make the station less functional. :(

In an email thread between March and July 2016, Berlin's lack of trust with Metrolinx was well-documented. In those emails, she wrote, "the apparently unchecked conduct and culture of entitlement at Metrolinx is a true danger to our society."

A bit histrionic there.

Despite some last minute changes, this line will be a great success and is the best rapid transit project the GTA has seen in decades.

It may not go thru direct neighbourhoods and be in Hydro corridor and 403 but that's OK. There is such a thing as "the need for speed" and this line will be very fast and reliable having total ROW on it's own bus-way.

I was in Ottawa going to university in the 80s when the Transitway was being built and the same concerns were raised then. It went along Lebreton Flats and the Western parkway which had no one living there at the time. The stations were thought to be too big and no one thought the system would be used as it was so far from a lot of residential............needless to say, time proved them wrong. People will change their commuting patterns to use a fast Transitway just like people do for a subway. It's speed and reliability more than make it worth their while and this will prove to be true with the Miss. Transitway.

OC Transpo has crazy ridership (at least it did before the Conservatives came into power fired tens of thousands of government workers) so BRT is a little too much be the backbone. BRT won't be the backbone of either Mississauga or GO Transit so it is different situation.

Ottawa did make the mistake of having the busiest section of their BRT be on-street. Mississauga is also making that mistake, at least in the the short term.

It is kinda funny though that Ottawa will (almost) have a true rapid system soon: high frequency and grade-separated rail. It basically will be a metro/subway system. So maybe choosing BRT worked out in the end...

Imagine if Missisauga and 407 Transitway get enough ridership. Convert to rail and you have the 8th GO Train line, the Crosstown Line..

And they're replacing the central portion of the Ottawa Transitway with a LRT.

Ottawa is converting to LRT but not the central portion because the central portion was never built in the first place. Ottawa basically built the east and west Transitway but did little downtown just "hoping for the best." The downtown connecting of the 2 lines was bound to get congested the busier the system got.

Mississauga will not have that issue.

Mississauga value-engineered the central portion of its Transitway out of existence too, and it will end up sharing a busy Rathburn Road with a surface LRT line. So I don't understand what you're trying to say.
