This is awesome. I know that it is still a long time away, but I'm really excited about finally seeing this project happen.
 
Notice how the roadworks includes an allowance for getting rid of the Hydro One transmission lines (pylons). Great move. Keating channel will be an amazing space after all this.

"All over"? I made one post. And I didn't compare Toronto to Amsterdam in that one post other than the approach to the maintenance of brick sidewalks. I think you're protesting too much.

That thread is called "Shabby Public Realm". I still think Toronto's public realm is extremely ugly.

I'd suggest looking at fewer photos taken from airplanes and more photos of the actual ground-level experience if you want to talk about the public realm.

Yes, IJburg isn't bad other than being quite boring. It's midrise suburbia. i42 is right when he says we could do a lot worse than to emulate it.

Guilty as charged -- I'm comparing plans for LDL with the photo presented. No, I'm not going to go do a search for pictures other than the one presented in order to comment on the picture presented. But, that having been said, why would we want to put crappy midrise suburbia here?

And, I'm sorry, but if you call Toronto's public realm ugly and compare a piece of it specifically to Amsterdam, what inference am I supposed to take? That these are two completely separate thoughts in the same post?
 
The City of Toronto and Waterfront Toronto are nearing the completion of a series of plans that will guide the transformation of the Port Lands and better connect the Port Lands and South of Eastern areas. Public input has played a key role in shaping the plans to date. We are again inviting your participation to help to refine and shape the final plans. A final public consultation meeting is being held to present findings from three concurrent
studies – the Port Lands Planning Framework, Villiers Island Precinct Plan and the Port Lands and South of Eastern Transportation and Servicing Master Plan Environmental Assessment (EA).

Nice catch! I like that we're seeing that, and even though I've been lectured in the Transportation forum that such a thing isn't likely to ever happen - here's a great example of it (possibly) happening. I firmly believe that their undergrounding could fetch a pretty penny if the land were to be sold/leased. Not to mention the potential benefit of using it as a transit corridor.
 
 
The Sound Academy is going to become the replacement for Guvernment. How will the area deal with the noise from the venue and patrons after the club?

I heard there are many complaints due to the SA being a noisy concert venue. But turning it into a huge night club may have more rowdy folks in the area.

I can't imagine anyone complaining about the noise unless they live on the island.

SA is so far from anybody in mainland Toronto right now - and the city needs venues for parties. Any city does.
