Frank Stollery Parkette, 1 Davenport Avenue, you've been a long time a-coming.

Apparently it will take only 6 to 8 weeks (like allowing for a delivery) until it's ready. Meanwhile, on the internet there seems to be a conspiracy of silence in regard to which landscape architect has designed the park, or if it will be special at all. Anyone have more info?

It's a pity that plot of land can't be another building--perhaps a 10 storey thing? There's plenty of open space around 18 Yorkville and soon to be around 4S's hotel. The intersection is windswept as is, and could really do with a beautiful red brick building from aA--like the one you see at the base of that DD condo. Another wasted opportunity.:(
 
It looks like the front of Lotus and the parkette are finally progressing very nicely. The Silva Cells indicate the planting of substantial trees and as you can see in the photo they're doing a fair amount of landscaping for a relatively small area. While I was photographing the park a woman inside Lotus invited me in for a tour of what will soon be a very attractive European style cafe. 1 1/2 levels and a large patio that will run along the east and south side of Lotus. This could turn out to be a very attractive spot.

Now if they actually built Milan, and maybe converted the gas-station to a small park or something (yeah right), this corner would finally look like something. It's not very attractive, considering it's the north-east corner of Yorkville.
 
Thank goodness for that public space. Lotus is so incredibly bland and timid for such an interesting site bordering two streets. It was a major lost opportunity for something dramatic like perhaps a new red brick flatiron-type building. But the public space gives it a chance for redemption.

Actually, the very existence of the parkette meant that it was never going to have a dramatic flatiron shape.
 
Essentially, the problem here is that Lotus effectively turns its blunt, dreary back, or side, to the park--relative to the site's potential, it may be the clumsiest pedestrian-level urbanism that Toronto's seen in recent years...
 
So much complaining...

The tower itself is curved in a flatiron type of shape. The PODIUM is not, however, this part of the building will be facing (and therefore hidden by) the small parkette they are building in front of it.

The effect of Lotus rising over the parkette should be pleasant.
