I I wonder what the DRP would think of something like this.

It's so incredibly disappointing that the city doesnt seem to want to vault itself into the 21st century. This is postmodernism at its finest and would be a statement and a world class venue that would be immediately recognizable. Cities like toronto need iconic venues like this if they are to cement themselves as world class cities. I really hope something ambitious still gets built here.

So the DRP said this thing looks like "an object that's landed" - I'm not making any comparisons here but I'm wondering what they would have thought of the TD Centre...
If it looks like an object that's landed, then I might argue that it succeeds in its objective of resembling a venue that host e-sports events. See the Spodek Arena in Poland:

Not *really* - this proposal looks clumsy compared to Calatrava's Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències in Valencia; much less Sydney Opera House. Nothing wrong with the programme, the design is wanting on the other hand.

The UT article says the DRP was shown something different and the final product wasn't what they had been shown.
If that's the case, is there a penalty and/or stop work order for future bait & switch attempts like this? Mere tut-tutting after the thing is built will hardly be a deterrent.

I'm sure they would hate this too.

Images of the original Hotel X plans can be found in that thread on page. They are completely different from what was eventually built.

It's such a shame to see the DRP even try to fight back against this. The proposal is by far one of the most unique and unconventional ones we've seen so far. It would look absolutely gorgeous and any city would be glad to have something like this on their waterfront.
