Toronto Eaton Centre

Re Slipstream, an email response from TEC's senior marketing director: "Unfortunately, there have been some technical issues with the installation, preventing it from performing to its desired effect. We are in the process of conducting tests to determine what the issues are and hope to come to a resolution."

While no assurances/timelines were given, at least it's on their radar.

LOFT had an "exclusive preview" / soft opening of the store today. The windows were still papered over in the morning, but uncovered by mid-afternoon.

The Disney Store will be moving into the space previously occupied by the Aritzia temporary store beside Bath and Body Works.

Construction in the Shoppers Drug Mart expansion area where Marche used to be looks to be halfway completed.

Also in Atrium on Bay news, Blacks Photography will be moving to a new space in the middle of the mall, between the Post Office and Sterling Optical, across from Spring Rolls. Perhaps this might tie in with the upcoming renovations/additions to the mall in their current space on the corner of Yonge and Dundas?

Shoppers Drug Mart is now promoting a Fall 2013 opening for the Beauty Boutique expansion.

EB Games has opened a temporary store in the old Stylexchange location while the lower level store is being renovated.

Personal Edge has closed, and there is nothing on the hoarding indicating what is replacing it.

Some day Apple needs to get a larger store at the Eaton Centre. The current one is tiny for the traffic and compared to newer locations. It's almost like they're waiting for the perfect location in the mall to open. What do they know that we don't?

There is also a Gamestop nearby on Yonge just south of Dundas, which is larger (Gamestop also owns EB Games).

I must agree. The one in the Eaton Centre is always crowded (while the Yorkdale location just moved to a much larger location within the mall).

They were offered the old Harry Rosen spot, but didn't like the sight lines with the elevators in the way.

I heard a rumour that after HMV decided to close their FCP location due to their rent being jacked, they were asked to stay for a while due to the new tenant falling-through at the last minute. Perhaps it was Apple? Regardless, HMV declined.

It doesn't make much sense ! Are there other locations in the World that are effectively closed on the weekend !!! Like the majority of all the retail in FCP.

The malls in Vancouver, like Pacific Centre, have really reduced hours on the weekends. FCP does massive business pre and post office hours.

I don't think we'll see a larger Apple Store at the Eaton Centre either. While a store in the base of the new Ryerson Student Centre would be interesting, I think that 2 new locations downtown that are more likely are Union Station and 1 Bloor East. They're a little bit further away from Eaton Centre, would only draw off a small amount of the EC store's traffic and would increase the convenience factor significantly for piles more people.
