Umm I like the sound of this (From SmartTrack report to city council):

"LRT Options for the Eglinton Corridor Metrolinx has recently undertaken preliminary work to develop options for an enhanced Eglinton LRT between Mt. Dennis and the MACC and Pearson Airport. Options to improve travel speed along the corridor have been developed by Metrolinx, including optimizing the number of stations and enhancing the degree of grade separation. Further detail on these options including ridership, travel time impacts, transit accessibility, feasibility, and cost will need to be developed over the next several months with collaboration and input of City and TTC staff."

Good news. It makes perfect sense to implement the western part of SmartTrack as LRT (in a somewhat faster configuration than the original Transit City version).

The LRT can have almost same speed, will connect to every major N-S arterial and to midtown (Yonge / Eglinton), and will be cheaper and easier to build.

It can even be marketed as one of SmartTrack routes. SmartTrack is more a functional concept than a particular technology.

Station naming round two! From Metrolinx Engage:
Additional Feedback Invited on Eglinton Crosstown Station Names - Part 2
Many thanks to all who participated in our recent Eglinton Crosstown station name engagement. Your feedback was very helpful and has in fact resulted in proposed changes to some station names. For instance, Silverthorne is now named Keelesdale, and Oriole Park is now named Avenue.

To avoid confusion and to shorten names at surface stops, we have decided to eliminate reference to Eglinton as the cross-street (e.g. Wynford & Eglinton will instead simply be Wynford). This decision affects three stops whose major intersecting streets are already used as TTC station/stop names elsewhere on the network. We’d like your reaction to the newly proposed names of these three surface stops:

Forest Hill and Leaside stations were controversial enough, but Wexford doesn't even touch Eglinton. Metrolinx is becoming increasing desperate to avoid street names that we're gonna end up with a hot mess, especially when they later rename the Sheppard LRT stops too because it intersects the same arterials as Eglinton.

The Sunnybrook renaming of Leslie station is good.

But the others are insanity. If someone is looking to go to Victoria Park and Eglinton, they won't know where to go. Same with Warden.

Is there some way or some thing we can do to convince Metrolinx to smarten up with their naming scheme? Because if they get it wrong, we are stuck with it forever.

Is Eglinton Square too similar to Eglinton for use?
Heck, O'Connor could work as its north end is only like ~150m away from the intersection. (Until we get a relief line/Don Mills/whatever line that stops at it)

We won't necessarily be stuck with the names forever. Montreal has renamed subway stations after important people. But we should get it right the first time. I like neighbourhood names, but Metrolinx should ultimately listen to what users suggest is most practical. Most people seem to want the basic intersecting street names. If there are multiple stops with the same name on different lines, people will distinguish them by referring to the line name, eg "Leslie on the Eglinton line" or "Leslie on line 5". That seems fine.

Remember to submit your feedback on Metrolinx Connects. If not, we can show up in their office and berate them. I'm sure they'll listen :)
