All the wasted space makes me regret we didn't go with 7 segment trains . . . or just fully grade separate it and do a metro
We are just too good at half-assing things...All the wasted space makes me regret we didn't go with 7 segment trains . . . or just fully grade separate it and do a metro
wasnt 7 segment trains offered after they purchased this? a considerable premium to make changes like this aftter all the budgetting has been completedAll the wasted space makes me regret we didn't go with 7 segment trains . . . or just fully grade separate it and do a metro
what you lose in "wasted space" you gain in operational flexibility. There's very little need to run a 3 car train at 11 PM most of the time. All the wasted space makes me regret we didn't go with 7 segment trains . . . or just fully grade separate it and do a metro
True, but at the same time there isn't much of a cost to it either. Maybe the cost of maintenance is higher if you run full length trains, but the most expensive part of running trains is operation costs, and the costs of having a driver, and in that case whether you run 3 car trains or a single car doesn't matter too much. If we have a fully automated metro like what Vancouver has, then yes there is incentive. Since there is no operator, it costs as much to have a 2 car train run every 6 minutes as it does a 1 car train every 3 minutes. This isn't the case for what's being built on Eglinton.what you lose in "wasted space" you gain in operational flexibility. There's very little need to run a 3 car train at 11 PM most of the time.

Ottawa doesn't always try very hard. They bought hybrid buses years ago and decided it was too much work to actually drive them on urban stop and start routes, so they drove them on express routes and decided they didn't save money. I am not sure they aren't doing the same thing with running shorter trains at night.Ottawa is learning that the convenience of being able to do that, does not actually exist. They had that plan too, but they have left them connected.
I hate the outdoor stations so much . Should be 3/4 closed or have some sort of further protection from the elements.

Done because the decision-makers are not transit users. Except for photo-ops.
