June 6, 2015:

All I can see of 88 Scott Street from my vantage point in the Distillery is the red tip of crane tower A.

It's hard to believe that 88 Scott Street at 58 storeys and 669 ft., will be as tall as L-Tower (58 sty - 673 ft.), and it will tower over 1 King St. West (51 sty - 578 ft.). From this vantage point, it will obscure virtually all but the top 5 floors of Commerce Court West.

Stepping back a bit further, there are only two other tall buildings currently under construction that will impact the city skyline from the east to the same degree as 88 Scott Street, i.e. Massey Tower (60 sty - 683 ft.), and 488 University Avenue (55 sty - 679 ft.) They are outside the core, but will have the effect of stretching the downtown skyline northward.

I took this photo of the Hariri Pontarini Architects model of the future Toronto at Metro Hall yesterday (88 Scott St. is the building dead centre in the photo with the black dot above it). If HP's model of 88 Scott Street is as accurate as I believe it is, this would give us a pretty good representation of how it will appear when it's completed, relative to the surrounding buildings. I like how 88 Scott Street complements the staggered peaks of the two Brookfield Place towers, not to mention 1 King West and Scotia Plaza as well. I think it will make a terrific addition to our skyline.

Thanks for the informative posts. I agree--I personally quite like 88 Scott's design, and I'm really excited to see it rise. You'll have a great view of it coming up from where you are in the Distillery.

Too bad I'm not in Toronto at the moment--would have loved to see the Future Toronto exhibit. If that model is any indication, your west-facing view is going to get even better in the next 10 years.

Toronto really does have an impressive skyline, regardless of what direction you view if from, be if from the east (my view), or from the west (Liberty Village), northward from the Toronto Islands or Tommy Thompson Park, or south from Bloor/Yonge. Every view is different, but equally compelling.

It's the CN Tower honestly.

Without it, it isn't that distinguishable from other big North American cities. With it, as you say, our skyline is impressive from any angle.

The L Tower I must say though, is starting to make a similar impact on our skyline as the CN Tower but at a smaller scale.
