Where's Contra??

SW corner of Yarmouth and Shaw! As it happens, just celebrated its 10th anniversary this past weekend.

For the southeast corner of Christie & Barton, formerly a convenience store:

151 BARTON AVE

To alter the existing two-storey semi-detached building (containing one commercial unit and two residential dwelling units) by constructing a front patio, abutting Barton Avenue. Also, to permit an eating establishment use on this site.

Yes! That's how you bring vibrancy into the heart of a neighbourhood without a proper retail strip.

Right across the street from that the Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team plays their season home opener this Sunday over in Christie Pits Park at 2pm. Last year was team's first year under new ownership and this year they've wrangled a bunch of new sponsors, and getting them attention is that they signed Ayami Sato, starting pitcher for the Japan women’s national baseball team. I've seen a handful of news articles about how "the Japanese pitcher will be the first woman to play for a Canadian professional men's baseball team" (CBC). I'm not a big baseball fan but the games are free and it's fun in the summer to catch a few innings along with a few hundred other people sitting on the hill

Anyone else hit up the Antisocial Pinball Lounge? I just found out about it recently and have visited the last two nights. Probably not just the best collections of pinball machines in Toronto, but some of the patrons there have suggested to me it's the best collection in all of Canada. Some of the machines there are supposedly very hard to find anywhere else.

At least 5-6 rows of high end, newer pinball machines and some old classics. I'm hooked on the Godzilla and Deadpool machines in particular. The manufacturer of some of the machines (Stern) have an app you can download to scan the machines with your phone and keep track of your scores and compare with everyone else who plays the machine. This has got me hooked on the newer machines.

$20 cover gives you unlimited play. They also serve alcohol. No food though. But they give "in & out" privileges once you pay. So I just usually take a break and go grab a slice of pizza and then come back.
