I'm willing to dismiss one election as a fluke; a perfect storm created by a garbage strike, the HST, eHealth, a slate of bland right-leaning candidates with no credible predecessor on the left to fill Miller's shoes.

We have to remember that this is still the same city that elected suburbanite Mel Lastman with 80% of the vote, and urbanite David Miller with 60% of the vote, and that both mayors had extremely high approval ratings in both the core and the burbs for most of their two terms in office. I have little doubt that Tory (on the right) and Chow (on the left) could have similar crossover appeal. We also have to remember that this city has been incredibly unified in provincial and federal politics, that we care about far more issues than we disagree over (public transit, parks and rec, etc).

I'm still holding out hope that Rob Ford is an acute rather than chronic symptom. But only an election will prove that.

Mel Lastman only beat Barbara Hall because he got 90+ percent of the North York vote. He got 80 percent in the next election because his main opponent was a transvestite.

Information from the police document released last week revealed that the cops tried to interview several alleged members of the Dixon City Bloods in jail, including the man who had the "crack video" and was trying to sell it. The document says that all refused to answer questions. Certainly, people in the Dixon Rd. community have spoken to the police about what they know. My experience is that other people are afraid to speak to the police.

Do gang slayings usually end with a stolen cell phone? I'd imagine the perps just run. A cell phone would be evidence you were there when they were shot, and would usually be of little value, unless the content therein is worth something.

My biggest concern in all this is that the number of candidates in the next mayoral race will split the vote so much that Rob will get back in because of the Ford Nationals who just admit that he isn't the guy they want him to be. I really hope there's a single candidate that all the anti-Ford crowd —*which is to say, the vast majority of the city — can rally behind. I realize this isn't a new thought, but it goes through my mind every time I see someone post about how much damage the Fords are doing to their reelection chances.

I sometimes wish there was an option on ballots to vote for who you don't want elected in addition to who you do want elected. A way to vote for the best candidate and against the worst candidate at the same time.
 
If this escort/personal assistant business has any involvement with Rob Ford, it's probably one of the most legit firms in this sordid saga.
 
They keep saying there is no link as of now, and that more info could come out. They may be sitting on stuff at request of the TPS/Crown.
