Rob Ford's Toronto

OK, all very sordid, but are we SURE Alana Kindree is involved? There's probably more than one blonde named Alana. What's the proof here? Have you done a side-by-side detailed photo comparisons to confirm it's the same Alana? Because the woman who runs Staacked calls herself "Alana Marie" and her website is registered to Alana Carroll. See here:

Well that is her or her twin in those photos. And while she might not be the one running the company that photo was posted in March of 2012 around the same time as St Patricks day.

Not solid proof but there are connections and it is becoming easier to see why a former staff member may believe that a 22 year old girl by herself hanging out with Rob Ford and a Friend in the Mayor's office may have been some form of escort.

There was no claim in the ITO that money was exchanged but when you see your boss hanging out with a very young women, who is not his wife, drinking (clearly not in a professional or business like manner) I can see where certain assumptions may be made.

Assuming it's LeDrew again, I hope he doesn't hurt Rob's feelings:

Is it possible that that photo was taken at a Halloween party?

Assuming the sleuthing taking place here is correct, the photo is not the key piece of information. She works for a company that, if not outright prostitution, seems to involve stripping or at least partier for hire. Making it more and more likely that Ford paid her for something. At City Hall. A young woman in her early twenties paid to party with the Mayor at City Hall. This alone would sink most politicians.

I don't know either way. I've heard that addicts can stop using for a while, through sheer force of will, as a "here's proof I'm not an addict" sort of thing. Eventually that falls apart and they start using again. So maybe he's going through that process now.

I certainly don't think his substance abuse issues are fully resolved, regardless of his current (non)-usage.
The vast majority of addicts do stop on their own, the dry drunk nonsense is just AA speak.

Having said that, Ford hasn't stopped drinking and drugging at all. He's just lying about it and the Fords think they can hide it. He was into his cups at city council yesterday.

I don't have the ITO in front of me, but was Ford supposedly talking about getting laid the same night he was partying with this woman?

Had a conversation with someone yesterday who was all pumped about the big $60 savings on the VRT (this guy doesn't even own a car!). Same guy says he pays close attention to everything that has been going on yet he had no idea about the bonuses paid to Ford staffers or the double salary paid to David Price. He was one of the whole "Ford saves us money" crowd based on one small piece of evidence.

The lack of knowledge about the ITO is astounding. These people need links sent to them or the full PDF printed out and handed to them!

I can tell you this is not the case -- addiction is precisely the state of not being able to stop on your own.

I don't particularly subscribe to the AA theory, but I do think that some kind of treatment is really important for getting over an addiction. There are lots of secular programs available, and ones that practice harm-reduction and gradual change over the AA method.

It's obvious the strategy is to get out and keep spewing lies that go un-checked, in the hopes they will resonate as truth.

You beat me to it.

The fact that Ford was elected in the first place is a sign that there's "something fundamentally wrong with our city". I see it as a symptom of our urban vs suburban divide, which has become deeper that ever before thanks to Ford.

I'm willing to dismiss one election as a fluke; a perfect storm created by a garbage strike, the HST, eHealth, a slate of bland right-leaning candidates with no credible predecessor on the left to fill Miller's shoes.

We have to remember that this is still the same city that elected suburbanite Mel Lastman with 80% of the vote, and urbanite David Miller with 60% of the vote, and that both mayors had extremely high approval ratings in both the core and the burbs for most of their two terms in office. I have little doubt that Tory (on the right) and Chow (on the left) could have similar crossover appeal. We also have to remember that this city has been incredibly unified in provincial and federal politics, that we care about far more issues than we disagree over (public transit, parks and rec, etc).

I'm still holding out hope that Rob Ford is an acute rather than chronic symptom. But only an election will prove that.

I'm not saying that treatment is ineffective per se. I'm saying that most addicts by percentage quit more or less independently simply because they can't afford or don't have access to treatment. It can take years but it finally sticks.
