Rob Ford's Toronto

Your right I’m solidly in the Rob Ford camp,

My right? ;-)

Ah, that malvern2. He's to urban political discourse in Toronto as this is to urban architecture in Toronto

I'm sooo glad he doesn't lurk in projects/design-related threads; he'd probably be defending that kind of architectural sewage to no end...

Dear God the past couple pages of this thread make me wish there was an IQ test requirement to vote. My lord I cannot comprehend how someone can be so voluntarily ignorant.

Hopefully next election there are more voters who actually pay attention, as opposed to ones who listen to Glenn Beck-esque propaganda and get sucked in by catchy slogans that are based on no facts whatsoever.

Well you wrongly assume that councilors from North York for example are not aligned with the councilors from Toronto/East York. For example Maria Augimeri, and Anthony Perruzza councilors from North York usually vote with the councilors from Toronto/East York. And by the way its just Toronto now. Ask kids where they are from and they will say Toronto. They will not say Scarborough

I'm making no such assumption. I'm simply responding with sarcasm to malvern2's statement that downtown socialists run city council. The fact is that council's agenda cannot proceed without a significant number of suburban councilors, but it can proceed without a single downtown councilor. Also kids don't vote, so it's immaterial at the moment where they say they're from. I think we've seen enough evidence that many voters and politicians continue to see themselves as being either suburban or urban.

The funny thing is that every Canadian is a socialist and believes in socialism to some degree unless they have some sort of hardcore anarchy/libertarian principles, which very few have. Even hard-core American tea party members believe in it to some degree whether they care to admit it or not.

Maybe there's a filter that can be added to the board for whenever someone types "socialist" it comes out as "people" or something like that.

Adma, unfair to say because of my political views i support horrible architecture. I've been lurking on this page for years because of a strong intrest in both urban planning and design i've only now spoken up as i feel i have a different view to offer in a discussion. The_Architect i am guessing by your remarks you are making a comment about me? Before calling me ignorant or commenting on my low IQ perhaps you could PM me and meet me at my work one day and see what in life I do? Maybe you can understand how hard i have worked and what level of education it has taken me to get there? I dont talk the talk and hide behind the anonymity of this forum. I am always open to a good disussion but not to name calling.

Mayor Ford is the civic leader whose dominant feature is his incivility. What kind of ass knowingly passes open streetcar doors, especially in an area as congested with different modes of traffic as Dundas and McCaul? He is the man for all those who are stuck in traffic, banging on their steering wheels, certain that this is happening because everyone else is an idiot. For all those whose only solution is to yell louder. He is ugly, mean-spirited, unthinking, belligerent - it's frightening to think so many people in this city and region continue to look to him, despite his obvious inability to achieve much of anything except to restrain the demands of the lowest status workers, as their champion.

Well played sir. No offence but I hardly think there are any socialist on city council

Sorry mate, I think that people who rely so heavily on media-manufactured slogans and phrases are personally incapable of creating their own independent viewpoints. Also, hypocrisy on your part on the last sentence. You are not seeking a good discussion; you are seeking simply to prove your point without accepting or even acknowledging any other opinion or fact.

I'm voting for him again, he's done a better job running this city then any mayor I remember, I know the elitists on this board will cry foul but he's put this city back on a proper fiscal track. Funny how when Ford was championing subways lefty self serving councilors like Stintz said Scarborough didn’t need them and now all the sudden is pushing her own subway agenda through. Ford has the right ideas that the people of this city want. He won and he’ll win again…get over it.

Why would I get banned??? I'm bringing another view to a one-sided discussion. I have not said anything rude compared to the comments made by some form member about Rob Ford. Look at the numbers; I represent many voters in Toronto. Rob Ford has handled the unions, produced a smaller budget for the first time since I can remember and brought some fiscal responsibility to a free spending downtown biased council.

Neubilder nothing to be fascinated about, PM me and ask away I’m not intimidated by a good debate, but trying to mock me for a view held by a MAJORITY of Torontonians is unfair.

I'm at work and would love to reply to everyone of your points. I will read it thoroughly when I have time but already I’m seeing points that I don’t have a problem with.
Don Cherry was right, this council was over loaded with left wing downtown council members who hijacked this city and basically ignored the needs of those outside of the core filling it with their socialist agenda[...]

Sure he does. CN gave solid examples. You gave opinion, showing no evidence backing up any of your points. Without any facts, you're not even debating.

I'm defending his actions and presenting another side...thats all. I'm sorry you feel elsewise. Rob Ford won, get over it, 499 pages of crying is not going to change this.

You're mad at the ford bashing, but you use inflammatory language like socialist causes? What are these socialist causes?

I am trying to start a fight at all, you are a good poster. I just don't believe everyone downtown is that extreme left.

Same. What happened to critical thinking these days? There should be some requirement involving critical thinking before being able to vote instead of some people following the nonsense coming out of Faux Fuse Channel.

"Don Cherry" is a tv character. He's not real.
"Don Cherry" is just as real as Homer Simpson: a complete buffoon.

Don Cherry is a very real entitled, over 50, overweight, white male, who beliefs are based on a world he thinks exsisted 60 years ago. Someone should tell him the his ideal post WWII world, never was, it was a fantasy created by the politics and media of the day. He, the Ford's and their types need to get over this fact and start living in 2012.

I posted that before. She won't run as her plans are to help the NDP win the next federal election in 2015. If successful, she will definitely hold a very high position such as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration

Regarding the Streetcar door violation supposedly committed by the Mayor, has anyone on the street at the time and place come forward as a witness?
