I am still waiting for that 100% private sector subway he kept on talking about.

perhaps he should put his money where his mouth is ...

deco labels should be the first to commit $100 million for morningside station (?) ... the furthest east you can go
(too bad it's a conflict of interest thou)

If council's decision on transit is irrelevant, then why isn't Ford's plan also irrelevant? Unless of course, Ford thinks being mayor, as being above the majority of council. In which case he must have been asleep all these years as a councillor, because he obviously miss the part were majority vote on a motion, passes at 50% +1.

Bet you he'd have declared a sweeping victory if the vote went 23 to 22 in his favour!

You know if money were no object, his original subway map isn't a bad one at all.

I think for 7 years he did witness a council who in his view sided with the mayor on mostly everything, but because of his outsider perspective didn't see the amount of work put in by Miller to create compromises that allowed for broader support. Perhaps from his perspective he thought all of those councillors were just puppets helping Miller push his agenda and expected something similar to happen here.

True, but one could say the same for any number of other peoples' fantasy subway maps in the fantasy subway map thread.

Just as many people pointed out during the campaign and following the election, Ford's transit "plan" was not capable of implementation.

Given your preference for LRTs, it would appear that you understand that Ford's transit "plan" was either a lie or a delusion. I'm genuinely curious as to why you would support such a person.

If money were no object his subway plan would have been pretty good - but the amount of money that was being squandered in subway lines in the middle of nowhere was criminal. This is true specially when considering operational costs.

In the real world, Toronto is much better off proceeding with Transit City than the alternatives. People underestimate the importance that downtown streetcars had in protecting downtown Toronto from the fate of so many North American cities. LRT can provide the outer 416 with a real advantage vs. the 905, while giving Toronto even more character as a city.

It's missing the Downtown Relief Line. Then it would have been a decent transit network.

The problem with Ford, is he refuses to be honest with the public. Subways are expensive and someone has to pay for them. On one hand Ford is obsesses with cutting taxes and not spending money. Then he picks the most expensive form of transit, with no way of paying for it. If the public refuses to pay higher taxes and tolls, maybe they don't want a subway all that badly.

'vibe, I think you have encapsulated the Ford situation pretty well here.

Don't forget that Eglinton was dumped on him by Metrolinx - in his campaign, he explicitly stated that he wouldn't have bothered with it. So to call it "his plan" is slightly off-base.
