Rob Ford's Toronto

Indeed, respect! :D

The red carpet thing makes sense in that: a) I don't see how Ford otherwise gets a ticket in to the show b) I don't see Kimmel giving him a real interview. Kimmel has made his attitude towards Ford pretty clear so I can only hope/imagine that he's going to blindside Ford with some heavy stuff. Of course, all these shows do pre-interviews so the interviewees know what Qs are coming and the host knows what stories to elicit but I can't imagine that Kimmel - a comedian, after all - has any interest in just letting Ford repeat his talking points. (Ford, for his part, is a lock to mention "Oct. 27" and "$1 billion" at some point, forgetting that 98% of the people watching couldn't care less about our election and issues and 1.5% of the other people think he's full of crap anyway...)

What if the FoBros only *think* they're going to the Oscars and/or Kimmel? (If you catch my drift).

I think it was Norm Wilner who made the joke on Twitter, that this might actually be Doug doing like the end of Of Mice and Men, promising Rob he's getting to go on a real American talk show where they'll just love him, right before pulling the trigger out in the woods.

I feel like if I was Bill Blair I would have everyone doing double-duty this weekend. For all the date predictions, it would be hard to imagine a better ending to all this than Ford coming off the plane Monday, just glowing from his Hollywood adventure, clearing customs, and walking into Gary Giroux and a cadre of officers.

I don't remember much about Thursday night, I do remember Canadian Police telling me, if I kept this up I could be mayor of Toronto .

A LOT of paparazzi at LAX waiting for Rob Ford by the baggage claim.

Not sure if the paparazzi are always at the airport waiting for a celeb to arrive or if they are there for Ford but regardless, it has begun.

Yes, the bald eagle has landed.

Cabaret singer performing Roy Orbison's 'Crying' in Spanish while Rob and Doug Ford watch from the balcony, weeping...

This is going to be an interesting weekend...

That's why we need to avoid underestimating Ford and doing silly things like arrest estimations. He still has that chance, and to expect everything to go smoothly is potentially creating some false and overly optimistic expectations here.

In my opinion, it's always better to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised rather than to expect everything and be disappointed.

I'm not sure what you mean. What does one thing have to do with another? Ford still has lots of supporters. And, it's likely he will be arrested. The two aren't mutually exclusive. We are not "influencing" anything by playing a harmless game on an internet forum. It has no impact on if/when he will be arrested and it has no impact on a vote that is still 7 months away.

These ↑

Toronto, the GTA, the Province and the nation as a whole has a substantive "Hoser", "redneck", proud-to-be, in-yo-face, belligerently ass-holish population. And they can't be discounted. They vote, mostly. The 'Just Society', Pearsonian, Blue-Helmet, Peacekeeper Lovin' populace obviously still roams the land in great numbers, but they're getting slaughtered in the Message Delivery dep't. It often seems Advertisement trumps Government. The Fords truly get this, love it, spread it.

So, that smugness has to go. We have to wake up, acknowledge The Fordian Knot amongst us and figure out how to counter their - let's face it - effective sloganeering, sound-bite nonsense with more effective counter-comms. Or that populist, reactionary bent will continue to destroy the policulture, burn the furniture and piss on everything. Just because it's 'catchy'.

The simple solution to all of these political/cultural/social/anthropological issues is the STV.

Jimmy Kimmel did those videos of the guy from parks and rec parodying Rob Ford, smoking from a crack pipe and being a belligerent, klutzy moron, right? How could he have Ford on his show and not humiliate him? Also, since Kimmel put out those videos, how could anyone in Ford's posse think this is a good idea?

Kimmel met Ford at the airport. Doubt he does that for all of his guests. Is this some sort of alternate reality? I'm so confused.

Agreed. However it would get shouted down and slogan-ed to death with such a forceful, idiotic and ideological onslaught (remember 'Undemocratic Coup of Liberals, Socialists and Traitors in '08?) that 'The Tim Horton's Voter' would want nothing to do with it.

One small hope for 2018: the RABIT (Ranked Ballot Initiative, championed by the seemingly tireless Dave Meslin. + Way Cuter Name for STV! ) now in two PMBs before the legislature will make it further than other such member leg's.

oof, harsh! :p
but if they cared about him, they'd be duping him into going to California under false pretenses so they could take him to the Betty Ford Center!
