Rob Ford's Toronto

Now I'm reminded of Denzil Washington's character in Flight, where he plays a high-functioning alcoholic pilot, who uses cocaine to "balance" himself out.

I've been thinking of that same comparison for over a month.

Rob also reminds me of Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances.

A little late but I'm going to call bulshit on Robbie's 810 pound leg press for 20 reps. First of all I doubt the city hall gym is equipped with a machine that can hold ten plus plates on either side. I belong to one commercial gym and one weight lifting gym and there is no way anyone is getting 810 pounds on the commercial gym rack. I'll confirm tomorrow but I don't think you could get more than six plates on the commercial gym rack. I have no idea about the weights lifting gym because no one bothers with leg presses so there is no rack. They squat. If, big if, for some reason city hall is equipped to handle that weight I guarantee Robbie did one eighth range of motion, which is obviously no big deal. Besides, we all know Robbie likes to round up when it benefits him.

Also....

Also, giving numbers like that shows what a skewed idea of health Rob has. It's really not necessary to get into heavy weights to be a generally fit, well person.

I wonder if his current shape prevents him from doing something like the Sun Salutation yoga routine.

LOL!! YES!! That gut of his will get in the way of this pose and any others that involves bending at the waist. He needs to take off another 40lb before he considers something like that.

I am also not liking the image of RoFo in yoga attire.

As did I back in '06.

Of course, Theo had reason to be so pirate...I was just being an asshole to myself.

Both of you recovered - congrats. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you had friends who loved you enough to let you hit rock bottom so you could get back up?

It hurts on such a human, visceral level, for me to see people continually covering up for Rob Ford instead of letting him sink so he can get be helped and healed.

I don't think this was posted already.
Not clear whether Lisi breached bail conditions by hanging with Mayor Rob Ford

8:53 pm, January 22nd, 2014

Lisi's bail condition prohibits him from associating with anyone known to him to have a criminal record except while in the presence of counsel.

Ford has a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol in Florida, a fact widely known since QMI Agency broke the story during the 2010 mayoral campaign. Lisi volunteered for Ford's campaign and was praised by Ford for his leadership, according to a character reference letter filed in court last year.

"Lisi can be charged for violating his bail since Ford has a criminal record ... in the U.S.A.," certified criminal law specialist Daniel Brown said.

"More importantly, Mayor Ford can also be charged as a party to the breach if he assisted or encouraged Lisi to violate his bail," Brown insisted.

"The prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Lisi knew of Ford's conviction, and that is a challenge. There isn't enough evidence on this alone to prove this. If they questioned either of them, and they admitted it, there would be enough."

Prominent defence lawyer John Struthers said Ford has a criminal conviction, but it is a stretch to call him a criminal and it's doubtful Lisi considers him an outlaw.

"Well, to suggest the mayor of Toronto is a criminal is pushing it a little bit. It's not as if he was charged with a conspiracy to sell narcotics. It was a DUI, which some people consider more of a traffic offence than a criminal offence," Struthers said.

(If the potential to murder someone was merely a traffic offence, it wouldn't carry a criminal conviction. )

Edit: As if Lisi didn't know of Ford's conviction. If what Jimmi T has said is true, Lisi would have found out Ford's weak points first thing, and used them against him.

One of the funny things coming from Ford's statement today: "As you know, I'm a human". Really, Rob? Was there any doubt?

No, but I read the whole thing. It really wasn't much. The only thing that surprised me a bit is that Mandel rehashed some of the Renata abuse stuff, although it didn't make Ford look particularly bad (more of a he said/she said summary). I did notice comments were disabled on the article.

EDIT: Article is back up. http://www.torontosun.com/2014/01/22/the-mayor-rob-ford-story
