Rob Ford's Toronto

weren't there supposed to be more court appearances by the project traveller and project brazen 2 accused around now?

This is for all those who think the Rob Ford drama is bad for Toronto image. The Daily Show's Samantha Bee (Toronto girl) explains how they cover Rob Ford. See 2:38

That is so great! Don't just see 2:38, watch the whole 4:01. That woman packs so much insight and humour into such a short interview.

What she has to say goes quite a long way to explain why so many of us spend an unreasonable amount of time following the Rob Ford story. In addition to the gross-out jokes (oh so frequent and oh so funny) and the hits of pure outrage (which, when they stop arriving, make some of us beg for more, like addicts ... some TO blogger recently made that point really really well but I can't find the link), there are two big questions: What kind of town is this, and what kind of people live here? I think the only good thing about the Rob Ford debacle is that some serious thought is going on about those questions, thoughts that might not occur if some less horrible person were mayor.

Nunziata said that Bob & Doug were both issued a warning from the Chair, she said they were "very, very apologetic". This was from the chaos they launched during the Council meetings last month. Riiiiiiight.

Council is a joke because the person in charge of council is a joke. She should be replaced....immediately. If not sooner. As for Mammo and his mr tough guy stance...have the security bring a stun gun.

Ford Ethics Complaint Filed

Today, Democracy Watch released the complaint affidavit it is filing with the City of Toronto Integrity Commissioner today requesting that in Democracy Watch’s opinion she should investigate Rob Ford’s well-publicized, and self-admitted, actions in the past year to determine if they violate the Code of Conduct for Members of Council (the “Code”).

The Integrity Commissioner recently ruled on a separate complaint that the City council filed about different actions by Rob Ford that the City, and in that ruling she said that she thinks the general standards of conduct in the Code are “aspirational” and not enforceable. Democracy Watch disagrees and is appealing to the Commissioner to uphold the standards as they are among the most important rules in the Code.

Democracy Watch is prepared to appeal the Integrity Commissioner’s ruling in court if she rejects its complaint on the same grounds.

A few weeks ago we were having trouble getting our work done, mainly due to our utter fascination with Rob Ford and his endless vortex of gaffes, GIFs and Internet-monopolizing misadventures. So we built a browser extension for Google Chrome that blocked out all mentions of our news making mayor across the web. It offered some brief respite and a return to productivity, at least around the Pilot office.

Replaces Rob Ford's antics with holiday themed nonsense, so you can have a break from the madness.

Fake Black is on a roll tonight ...

Forgive me. A week ago this moment The Conversation in full was airing. As we pass the midnight hour, I allow myself a rare unhumble moment.

The Zoomer Conversation is not unlike the invention of moveable type itself. Game Changer? How about Epoch Changer?

I admire the effort, but am a little worried about the mental toll it might take to come up with that level of satire ... :-/
