It is interesting that both Moscoe and Lastman, despite having strong animosity between each other before the amalgamation, endorsed Josh Colle for city councillor.

Read this just now in Daniel Kahneman's Thinking Fast and Slow. Think it pertains very well to why the Fords were able to spin one, ridiculous lie (the LRTs are streetcars and they will slow down your commute to work to a crawl!) into a reason to completely financially derail transit reform.

As a fan of social psychology and decision making, I recommend reading Carol Tavris' and Elliot Aronson's book "Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me)". It's a book about why people make bad decisions and examines confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance and positive feedback loops. It even goes to great lengths to show mistakes made by politicians. One poor decision snowballs and next thing you know, what was once a completely ridiculous idea is now something you believe will solve everything.

I have full confidence Giambrone would have brilliantly carried out that brilliantly prepared campaign. After all, he had the brilliant idea during the recent by-election of getting his face on TV while standing like a clumsy oaf at a Glen Murray press conference. Worked like a third-place charm. You forgot to mention his awful, turgid, oh-so-political 'columns' in Now where he weekly misses the point. MetroMan, you might admire his strategist, but he hitched his buggy to the wrong horse.

Except that Eggleton ran as a Blue Liberal rather than as a Red Tory. And Crombie won with the support of the, uh, downtown-lefty whiners--Eggleton didn't; he ran against that bloc.

If Toronto were like Vancouver, Eggleton would have been the Non-Partisan Association (i.e. "free enterprise grand coalition", not unlike the successive provincial Socreds or BC Liberals) candidate, i.e. he solidly represented the affluent right-of-centre interests...

Oh man. What a strange way to find out the news about Lou Reed.

I'm feeling old. He was 71, which is a lot better run than some rock stars of his generation got. Still, it would have been cool to find out what crazy stuff he might have produced at age 80, even if it might be totally unlistenable. His best was really, really good; some other work, not so much.

Fans should listen to the song Cremation from the Magic and Loss album. "When I leave this joint, at some further point ..."

He still is I wish he was still a councillor, he would be having a lot of fun with this whole thing. He was one of the only people who could put Rob Ford in his place incredibly well.
