Rob Ford's Toronto

I can't imagine it'll be long before Ford himself is taken into custody. With all the alleged dirt the cops already have on him, one is led to believe that they haven't arrested him on solicitation or obstruction because they're after a bigger catch. Ford has to be inhibited by some real serious form of mental retardation to be able to live day to day and not worry that the cops are going to be dragging him across the lawn in his underwear sooner or later.
It was probably difficult for me to imagine that he'd still be in office with a coin-flip's chance of reelection after news of the video first broke. Or when all that money was raised to purchase it. Or when it was reported that he used his staff and office resources to assist his high school football team. Or when he was asked to leave a charity function for acting strangely. Or when he was said to grab Sarah Thomson's ass. Or when he was recorded stumbling stupid drunk on the Danforth. Or after numerous other cockups, small scandals and court cases. But there he is. Nothing seems predictable here. Given the experience of the last two years it seems his ability to lie and deny and slide past any potential disaster is strong and the ability of the political, law and media establishments to hold him responsible for anything is weak. Expect more of the same.

Makes you wonder if there is someone pulling the strings to keep him protected, rather than it just being blind luck.

On a related topic, has anyone played the new GTA game yet? I could easily see a string of missions where you work for a corrupt, overweight, bigoted mayor...

CTV exclusive interview with "Jay the dry-cleaner"

"and the only stupid thing that I did was to have Sandro as my friend who was involved with Mayor Rob Ford....is it a crime? "

He has been accused of trafficking in marijuana but has a license for medicinal marijuana from health Canada.

Looking at what has happened - Toronto Police obviously had Sandro under constant real time surveillance including wiretaps. According to the CBC police have overheard Mayor Ford on the wiretaps. This leads me to believe that Toronto Police would have had numerous opportunities to catch Ford in the act of purchasing drugs and yet they have not touched him? Usually in Police investigations they go after the big fish. It seems that time and again TPS is letting the big fish get away?

The local media in the past have asked Chief Bill Blair if Ford is the subject of an investigation and of course Blair has responded with a "no comment" comment (what else can he say).

The question that the media SHOULD be asking is this. If there was any evidence that the Mayor of Toronto - Blair's political boss - was involved in illegal activities would Blair call in an outside force to investigate - as he should - or would the investigation be handled by TPS? (complete conflict of interest!).

It could well be that an outside force such as the OPP has taken the lead in this investigation but it doesn't look that way so far. I don't think the OPP would keep letting the big fish get away.

Mr. Bagheri was found with crack and charged with possession.

The following is just a scenario and I'm in no way making accusations, just thinking out loud:

Could it be that Ford had to stop seeing Lisi because the media was on to him and was following him so Lisi used one of his buyers (Mr. Bagheri who was using pot for pain relief) to get drugs to Ford without raising suspicions (dry cleaning delivery is expected of a man who wears a suit every day) and then Mr. Bagheri just happened to have the coke on him when they were busted? That would fit with the charges that were laid and the character witnesses accounts by those who new Bagheri and what we know about Sandro Lisi.

If true, expect Mr. Bagheri to tell the cops everything he knows because he has no personal investment in the Mayor and won't ruin his life over someone to which he has no particular loyalty.

Whatever is happening here, Rob Ford must be really feeling the heat now. This is REALLY CLOSE to him and no doubt the cops have stumbled upon wiretaps or visual observations of the Mayor being involved in this scheme.
Unless the dry cleaning man is physically threatened, or his family is threatened.

In other news: “Controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is randomly tweeting at musiciansâ€

“Curiously, whoever runs the Rob Ford account seems to be bumbling in tribute to the Mayor, aimlessly tagging random Canadian artists like Metric and Ron Sexsmith in regards to his Texas-trip.â€

oh man, could this guy be more of an embarrassing dolt?

Well I can only imagine how I would act in such a situation. It would be hard to be normal. Walk a mile..
Really? I would think I would have someone pick me up, or at least be making a B line to a taxi or the subway. He literally walked right back to the same doors he just came out of, and then went a different direction.

You make interesting points, but what you're overlooking is the fact that Ford is not the big fish. Users are never the big fish, no matter how prominent. The police want to cut off distribution ultimately.

Also remember form the earliest stories that Ford is hardly the only high-profile customer these dealers deal with. I think this was in the Gawker article. An NHL analyst was hinted at? At any rate, lots of big names. Who knows who they have on wiretap besides RoFo. But rounding them all up would do nothing to address the distribution issue.

Have you ever been fishing for a big fish? If you start reeling too hard and too soon, you break the line. You let them take the bait - you play with them for a while, give resistance and make them expend energy and hopefully tire them out. You reel them in slowly.

Putting aside the analogy... I know you have a big hate-on for TPS, but give me a break - give them enough benefit-of-the-doubt to know what they're doing with a high-profile, high stakes case. If they know the mayor is guilty of much more serious crimes, they are not going to bust him for pot. They'd scare the fish. They have to let him go about his regular day to day business, let him think he's getting away with it, and nab him when the most opportune time strikes or when he has gone too far. This is what every level of police does, whether they are going after a serial killer, a child pornographer, or a drug smuggler. Build your case, wait for them to fuck up, and then catch them, red handed, in the act.

That was suggested a few weeks ago

I don't think Lisi is Ford's drug dealer. He's the middle man. Obviously Ford isn't going to go to a dealer himself so he has Lisi do it on his behalf. That's my theory.
