Wow, did Toronto really have a streetcar running on Yonge to Simcoe? What were the frequencies like?
A streetcar to Simcoe? Was there automobile gods back then, they would have been very mad, LOL.

There's nothing so permanent as temporary measures, amirite
There defentily hasn't really been any transit improvements in Six Points area, although there is the Metrolinx Hub opening up fairly soon down the street at Kipling Station. That will obviously be the "substantial transit improvements" here.
^ Great shots, but this time of year, everything suburban looks like Mississauga! That's bleak!
Pedestrian crossings will be at signalized intersections with AODA provisions and the new roads will be fully illuminated. The curb radii will be on the lower side (compared to suburban major 6 lane arterials). It's not like the 6 lane suburban arterial intersections will be much better. Poor lighting at pedestrian crossings and no curb extensions to slow down turning cars mean the area will remain fairly inhospitable.
There is a subway running under it, GO train route through it, and bus routes everywhere. What more do you want??There defentily hasn't really been any transit improvements in Six Points area, although there is the Metrolinx Hub opening up fairly soon down the street at Kipling Station. That throws salt on the wounded sidewalks! In all fairness, that area will green up (one only hopes) a lot more than Square One ever has (or will it seems). Today was spectacular sunshine. My sights are far beyond Square One, it's bad enough even having to change buses there.Large parts of Etobicoke are suburban like Mississauga. When this area urbanizes, it will be more likely to resemble the Square One area vs. downtown Toronto.
Even as an ardent escape distance cyclist, I look at that as a great place to have my bike on the front rack of a bus, to get past it. It takes further time and effort to get out safely to 'safer back roads' every year. I've got my sights set on the Erie Barge Canal this year...Unfortunately there's another one just down the road by Dundas/Royal York.
