Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

The next gaps to be filled are the biggest ones. Arguably this widening is the most complicated as it is Collector+Express, but bridging the gap between Milton and Highway 6 is over 20km.

That gap is already half done. The Guelph Junction Railway, Campbell Ave, and Appleby Line underpass widening projects are all just finishing up...
 
I guess you're right. I'm including the auxiliary lane that runs from Hurontatio to 410.

Does the basketweave on 401 EB at Hurontario also open when the Credit River project is done (in addition to HOV)?

This is what will be in place when the current project ends (east of Credit River), but before the next one starts (west of Credit River to past Milton).

EB Offramp at Mavis has been shifted since those pictures were taken.
Not surprised as it was ready the day I shot them..

The road between the off ramp and on ramp can't be done until traffic is moved. This applies for both directions.

Another year of construction.
 
Any map for the whole widening project?
(Would have been nice to use all that highway construction money to build a subway line instead.)

I would say a better equivalent would be upgrades to GO train service along Kitchener/Milton lines.

There are people outside of Toronto who need to get around you know.

The whole beginnings of the GO train system was the cancellation of the Allen Expressway and other expressways in Ontario, with a focus on interurban rail instead.

As someone who spent 6 hours on transit yesterday r/t from my house in Kitchener to the office at Yonge/Bloor, I agree.

Not quite. GO Transit was started as a pilot in 1967 (with planning work started a few years earlier) and was meant to mitigate the need for the expansion of existing highways. The QEW was already six lanes wide through Mississauga and couldn't be widened without major expropriation. The MTC was still planning highways like the 403 and 404, and Metro was just finished the Gardiner and DVP and planning the Spadina, Scarborough, and Crosstown expressways.
 
March 12 1959...... CN announces plan for freight bypass and suggests it's willing to run a commuter service on the existing lines at break-even rates.
March 13 1959......Toronto Star editorial endorses " a comprehensive commuter train service to the suburbs".

A commuter service was talked about even back then.
