Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

Why close the express lanes from Mavis to 403?? It would make the traffic even worse when they close it because the collectors is only 2 lanes eastbound at the 410/403 interchange and at the transfer point between Dixie and 427.

Ah yes, that's correct. I usually take Express so I had forgotten. it is just a mess right now though, it cant stay how it is. but it will for months, I'm sure.

Gee!! I guess you forgot those express lanes need to be rebuilt along with the creek bridge. You will have them by Oct 2019 or sooner, but not for at least 9 months.

There is a lot of room to move from the collector to the express lanes before Hurontario.

The signs (yellow and black arrows) from the collector to express transfer are still there (just before the collectors dip south at the 410/403) from the temporary lanes during the last stage. Too bad the barriers have been extended across.

Thanks. Wow, that express lane entrance is nuts! (Fast forward to 5:15 to witness the craziness...)
With the temporary barriers on the right-hand side and all the orange paint around, that would appear to be temporary.

No, I was talking about the section east of Mavis.
I stand to be corrected, since I rarely drive on the 401 in this area, but the express lanes start at McLaughlin going east in both direction

This photo was taken Aug 26 looking east from Mavis and why the current and future express lanes have to be closed after this weekend.

Going westbound to Mavis Rd today, we saw no road closure sign as far as 427 and will not happen this weekend.

Before traffic can be shifted to the new collector lanes, they need to remove all the cement plant equipment, other equipment and clean the road. Some of the cement plant is ready to be move, but a lot still not ready.

The westbound collector was built up to McLaughlin and part of the express only just west of Hurontario.

When the westbound lanes are close, traffic will be force off at Hurontario and use 2 different roads to Mavis Rd.

Was going to shot a video, but traffic was stop and go.

The eastbound lanes were closed last night at Mavis to Hurontario to allow the relocation of the cement plant to the eastbound express lanes. Detour signs where up on Courtneypark Dr E. Signs up saying Hurontario ramps to the westbound lanes are close nightly from 10 pm to 5 am.

From what I saw and shot, work still needs to be done before the westbound lanes can be shift to the new collectors lanes.

One thing I saw and show up clearly in the photos, the left and centre lanes are causing the backup west of Hurontario St where the express lanes start. You got too many trucks in that left lanes as well both cars and trucks trying to cut in from the centre lane to get to the express lanes as well illegal lane change.

Non of the new westbound collector have lane markings and still been clean. looks like some removal of material and barrier where the current collectors will connect to the new section.

Wouldn't be surprise to see the current express lanes close east of Hurontario at the transfer point to keep all traffic in the collector lanes at this point than on the west side of Hurontario.
Nov 08 and more photos up on site. Have an issue with this camera lens that needs fixing and just got my 2 other 300 mm zoom lens back from being repairs today.

I see there's no mention of the 403 westbound on the overhead sign yet.
The next set of signs to the east of here say 403 and expect to see 403/410 next year at this location, or when MTO has the sign ready.

Thats one bitch of a split to the point, MTO needs to post signs to the west of this split. One big issue. the express concrete lanes start at this location. Some thinking by MTO to not allow truckers in that left lane at all and force them to use the collector lanes to the next transfer point, since they cause a lot of the backup issues in the first place. The car folks cause a lot of this mess themselves, as they cross 1-2 lanes when they spot the access to the express lanes.

OPP should be camping in the express and ticketing every truck driving in the left lane. There's no reason for trucks to be there as the collector will eventually merge there anyways.

Are they planning to do construction during the Winter ? If not then why create this mess...This project is nothing short of a nightmare, expand 5KMs of highway in 10 years and counting. This must be new record. I will check with the Guinness book folks.

Took a drive up 410 today in the HOV lane and saw that the 403/401 west interchange is now open.

Coming home this past weekend, traffic backup starting west of Mississauga Rd and slow driving to the split west of Hurontario. Most of this slow driving was cause by drivers who were clueless how to move from the exiting 401 to the new collector lanes and using the split. Number of drivers crossing 3 lanes to get to the express lanes, considering the overhead signs are clear what was coming down the road.

Heading west in Cambridge before Christmas, traffic was very slow and was caused by traffic trying to get hwy 8.

A few months of work and paving left to be done for the new centre lanes around hwy 24 area.
