RBC Centre (LEED Gold, CadFair, 41s, KPF/B+H/&Co.) COMPLETE

new RBC Rendering (185 meters)

Love the cantilevered floors, external fins and apparent-transparent glazing. This is shaping up to be a real gem.

It's rather funny that they would release that render as part of their sales pitch. It reveals the west side of the building as a stumpy, boring block of glass with little other than shininess to recommend it. The original Simcoe Place tower immediately to its south looks so much more interesting in comparison.

While the details from the mid-floor cutaway render do look promising up close, I don't think we're getting a particularly well proportioned tower here, and I'm quite glad that on the skyline it will be hidden on the west by the Ritz.

Communiqué # 10 Weeks of August 1 to August 31, 2007

Over the next few weeks the construction activities that will take place around the development of the RBC Centre and the Ritz-Carlton are as follows:

· Detailed footing excavation will continue along the southern boundary, east to west and then along Wellington St. at the north. Excavation for the complete site will be completed by the end of August.

· The access ramp into the bottom of the excavation will be relocated further west and will be removed completely in September once detail excavation for the footings in the rock is completed.

· Concrete footings will be placed along the southern boundary and concrete wall and column forming will commence.

· The self-climbing core forming system, for the Tower elevator core, and pouring of the concrete for these walls, will continue upwards ahead of the concrete floor slabs.

· Concrete slabs will be poured for the remainder of the second floor level in the tower area.

· Concrete columns to the underside of the third floor will commence in the tower area and slab formwork for the third will be put in place.

· The third, and last, tower crane was erected in late July. The south tower crane in the tower was jacked for the first time and additional mast sections were added to the north crane to raise it above the core formwork. The first jacking of the north tower crane will occur in August.

· Caisson and shoring work is now complete on the RBC site.

· Two tower cranes have been erected on the Ritz-Carlton site.

· Excavation for the Ritz-Carlton site will be completed in three weeks.

· Pouring of the slab on grade has commenced on the P6 level, as well as pouring and forming of the P5 level and suspended slab pouring of walls and columns levels P5 to P4.

Concrete footings will be completed on the Ritz-Carlton project towards the end of the third week in August.

RBC elevator shaft looks to be around the 4th or 5th floor.

Its moving extremely fast. (RBC will win the office Skyscraper race with TELUS and BAC)

I wonder when we will get to see the steel?
