Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Ford’s chief of staff goes ahead with libel suit against former PC MPP Hillier...

In a statement of claim filed in court, Mr. French alleges the long-time Eastern Ontario MPP has “narcissistically attempted to portray himself as some type of victim or crusader” in a “baseless” campaign against Mr. French that is “fueled by a misguided personal vendetta and grudge”, and aims to make the Premier’s key aide a “scapegoat” for Mr. Hillier’s exile from caucus.

And Hillier's the likeable one in the cabinet...it goes downhill from there...

Remember in the last election, when that CPC incumbent in a fairly safe riding needed a recount because Harper did a rally with the Ford brothers? Now Doug is dragging another party leader without the need for any rally!

Time to build some large-scale private-for-profit prisons...

We are long overdue to abolish cash bail altogether.

We need to restrict the use of bail entirely to accused persons deemed a risk to others if allowed to remain out pending trial and/or a high-risk to reoffend or not show up at trial.

Right now, bail is in place by default.

That should be flipped on its head, bail should be imposed only if clearly merited.

This is a piece from the NYT discussing this issue:

Note that I am in no way excusing Ford's reckless cuts; merely noting if we addressed a clear underlying issue, we would both cut legal aid costs and treat people with greater fairness at the same time.

You mean that Doug Ford will turn his back between him and the other Conservatives in Canada?

From link.

He'll need a lot of "white" space between him and the others.
