Laneway and Garden Houses (various)

Interesting architect who is building a lot of laneway houses.

 
I know that folks have posted about this before but can’t find them. Anyways southwest corner of Brandon and Brandon Lane one block west of Dufferin. Beautiful work by this guy!

The one thing that would drive me crazy is the tagging in these laneways, it's out of control. It's one thing when it's a garage door, but now we're talking about the front of your home. That'd get tiring pretty quickly.
I hate tagging too… but I love street art. The homeowner whose white brick laneway house has been defaced should probably commission one of the city's better graffiti artists to create something that's far less likely to be defaced. The laneway will likely be the better for it anyway, and someone will get a good job for a couple weeks.

As a general observation, I have noticed a trend where "corner" lots located at the intersection of two laneways are overrepresented in the laneway houses being built. By no means are they the only ones, but for whatever reason these lots seem to be the low hanging fruit.

This is a guess, but it could be the result of the way the regulations are drafted. Laneway houses need to be in certain proximity to a fire hydrant and have sufficient space for access between houses for emergency services. The units closest to the entry/exit to the laneway are probably more likely to fit those criteria.
 
Just a quick note to say that there are a couple of garden suites proposed in the CofA in areas outside the ‘pre-WW2’ city. Won’t post because they are nothing remarkable but I find it interesting to see the idea beginning to catch on in outer areas.
