Historic photos from Toronto on this day

June 10th: We start in 1924, on Davenport Road 86 years ago, looking east, from Christie St with water tower:

Retaining walls come and go, and the water tower is long gone, but the houses all look pretty much the same.

The building in the next photo, from 1929, is now long gone: The dance hall and flower garden at Hanlans Point, 81 years ago:

Finally, we have a rather uninspired photo from 1932, of a shack at the rear of 56 Greenlaw Avenue, just east of Earlscourt Park:

As always, the locations of these photos, as well as links to the City of Toronto Archives records, is available on the June 10th Historic Toronto Photos page

June 12th: While the City of Toronto Archives is the best source I've found for historic photos, the Toronto Star Archives are available online as well, available through a Canadian Stock Photography company, getstockphotos.ca Here's an example, from 98 years ago, in 1912, of the St. Clements Church on Duplex and Briar Hill:

Then in 1930 we have the north-east corner of Spadina and Dundas for an interesting photo of the Yiddish movie theatre sign, a Toledo scale, and an Ex-lax ad. (We've seen this photo before in the forum.):

(Links to these two photos, and their locations, are available on the June 12 Historic Toronto photos page.)

June 14th: Not all of the photos in the City of Toronto Archives are in black and white - here are some from 1974, 36 years ago. I ride up this hill a couple of times a week to get to St. Clair, just south of the Loblaws near Spadina... We saw the creation of this hill back in 1912 - see all the photos around http://wholemap.com/map/index.php?pin=TORARCHV-298

We then head just north a bit, looking north from Heath Street:

And then back the way we came, looking south from Glenayr Road.

(Details on these photos can be found on the June 14th Historic Toronto photos page.)

June 15th: There are a set of 6 photos taken on June 15th, 1953 of subway construction, 57 years ago.

You can see the whole set on the City of Toronto Archives site here, but here are the highlights:

I assume the 1st is Rosedale station looking north, obviously before the tracks. The house on the right is gone, but the building on the left, on Yonge Street, is still there. The second picture is looking south towards Bloor with no tall buildings in sight...

...and the Studio Building blending right into the foliage.

That several-storey layer cake by the Ellis Portal intrigues me. (I think it might have lasted into the 80s: very "industrial rationalist". Its foundation lasted as a parking structure; it's now in mid-demolition for condos...)

Either that, or the Harbord/Hoskin jog elimination.

I do seem to recall old overhead shots showing that hulk of an apartment block/Trinity Barracks on the left.

Many thanks DSC, I'll update the location of http://wholemap.com/map/area.php?area=TorontoIsland&pin=TORARCHV-662

June 19th: Just one photo from the 19th, in 1913 The image says Summerhill Crossing looking South but the City of Toronto record calls it 'Yonge Street - Summerhill Avenue crossing' but I assume that's incorrect. My guess is Mount Pleasant:
