Goldie's Toronto

One of a Kind Show at the CNE

Sometimes the sideshows are more interesting than the main events
- especially if one is hungry!

Are we finally seeing the demise of all move houses?
Their end was predicted c.1950 when TV was introduced to Canada.
Perhaps it's taken 63 years for the inevitable.
There are now only three cinemas in Scarborough!

Only 3 left? Wow!
Lets see if I can guess...
There's the Cineplex on Eglinton, and the one at Scarborough Town Centre.
Is the one at Cedarbrea still open?

I guess I shouldn't be too suprised. I think I've only been to 1 movie in the past 5 years, which was ruined by some guy hacking up a lung through the whole film.
It's hard to beat the comfort of your own couch these days.

In addition to the two you named, there's the third one at Morningside/401.

Cedarbrae was demolished many years ago (10 or more?).

I recall that Cedarbrae cinema was previously a bowling alley.

Hard to see that one go, really. I mean, it's no opulent 1920s downtown movie house, but I've lived around here a long time now and I've seen my share of shows at AMC Kennedy Commons. I don't know if it's movie houses generally but I know AMC, like Blockbuster, has been pulling back in Canada. Still, you'd think one or another chain would have grabbed it. Somebody must really want that land bad. More condos? Another Wal-Mart? New Target location?
