GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Looks like Barrie Line may be getting its 8th train round trip this September.
The new trains will be scheduled approx. 20~30 minutes later than the existing last morning/evening train.

(source: YRT service change page)

The September service changes are a bit more complex than just an 8th round trip.

The two trainsets that started at Maple in the morning have been lengthened to L12s, and will now start their runs from Barrie in the morning. Between 5.50 and 6.50 in the morning, there will be 15 minute service southbound. A new trainset will start at Bradford, leaving a half-hour after the current last train does.

In the afternoons, the current last train of the day gets moved up 10 minutes to 18.35, with the new train - going only to Bradford - leaving at 19.05.

Anything else coming this fall? 15 minute rush hour service is very good - better than the busier Kitchener Line, for example.

Thanks for the details.

As for buses I assume there won't be any big changes until December, for the Highway 407 Station and Renforth Station opening.

EDIT: Looks like GO buses will start servicing Dixie Transitway station this September:

On the rail side, this is the only change for September.

The bus side will see pretty major improvements to the 12, 29 and 40. The 12 is getting improved peak-period service, while the 29 and 40 are getting improved off-peak service and more-regular headways (hourly and half-hourly, respectively).

The 19 and the 40 will also be moving to the east end of the Mississauga Transitway. The 25 and 29 will follow at the end of April.

There are also a lot of minor tweaks to the Barrie Corridor bus service, in preparation for the launch of weekday off-peak service at the end of December.

Another Bombardier-Metrolinx court case:

Ben Spurr @BenSpurr
Breaking: Bombardier is taking Metrolinx to court again, seeking injunction against MX's request for qualifications to operate rail service. Bombardier is currently contracted to run MX rail service until 2023. MX is seeking another operator after that. Bombardier believes it is being unfairly excluded from the bidding process for the new contract.

let the litigation games resume!
Bbr files for an injunction because they couldnt bid....

maybe people who know more can answer but if BBD, CN, CP and PNR Railworks are all excluded from bidding....how long is the list of people capable of operating such a service?

Would it not have been easier to get an outside/independent review of the current ops and then allow all of those parties to bid?

Absolutely, the smarter thing would have been to do the review of their operations - which would attract any number of large and capable consulting firms - have them develop the business model and then put out a tender for operation based on that. There are consultants who can handle the business model analysis but don't have a business arm that runs trains, and vice versa. It is most certainly a conflict of interest for those who will be bidding on operations to design the business model.

This whole review initiative has been handled incredibly badly. The Bombardier staff are demoralised because they see ML determined to not continue with Bombardier as a contractor - but the GO employees are also demoralised because they see their jobs going to a contractor as well.

It reeks of low confidence in the existing organization, and it flies in the face of ML having built up an organization that attempted to have at least one specialist in everything (and sometimes two of them, in different and competing departments).

Is it going to be about the unpopular Kirby GO?

My money is on the September barrie train changes (two southbound maple trains now start at allandale and are 12 cars long rather than 6, added later southbound train and later northbound train). Maybe an announcement about weekday off peak coming December, but even for Del Duca there's not really anything substantive to announce between now and the service going live.
