General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

the painted lanes sections can and likely will be ripped up fairly cheaply.

Bloor Street has only been fully reconstructed for bike lanes between Bathurst and Avenue Road though. the rest of it is all 'just paint' and can be converted quickly and cheaply back to 4 lanes.

The reconstructed parts of Bloor anecdotally don't operate particularly differently than they did beforehand in terms of traffic, as the curb lane was always almost continuously blocked anyway.

Where it is slower is through Central downtown and out eastwards to the Prince Edward Viaduct, which had a wider road pre-lanes and more consistently had 4-lanes of traffic available for cars and already had turn lanes at intersections, unlike further west.
Does the law actually require 4 lanes to be restored? I thought it just requires that the space not be used for bikes.

It was always going to pass. The real question is, what happens next? Btw never noticed about the bill bypassing indigenous consultation, more trickery to fast track his highway.
The bike lanes thing was always a distraction. The bill is around 413. Hence why I would not be surprised if Dofo is more half-hearted about actually blocking bike lanes.

But he (his Twitter account at least) did get in a dig about bike lanes because an NHL team had to walk --- never mind the Santa Claus parade had closed lanes. Let's blame the cyclists!

Not only had the parade closed lanes, there was also 25X the capacity of Scotiabank Arena trying to get from downtown to the Gardiner/Lakeshore at the precise time this hockey team thought it was a good idea to drive to the arena. I don't blame their planners, they're not from here, but didn't someone at the NHL or the Maple Leafs think about this? There was obviously gridlock around the city at precisely that time.

Elections seem to be won on lies and misinformation, Doug. But you probably know that already...

Should we rebrand 212 to the "Provincial plan to kill cyclists and get away with it" Act? How many cyclists are they planning to kill that they felt the need to explicitly absolve themselves of civil liability?

It is not just cyclists vs. cars on roads in 2024 Toronto as there are 100,000s scooters, electric bikes in traffic. This whole thing is a stunt to smooth the way for the 413 which is not going as smoothly as desired.
