Durham Region Transit / Pulse

At the Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, DRT presented their 2026 Service Plan. Find it interesting that there's more attention towards extending routes and their operating hours, rather than frequencies/headways.

I'm disappointed not to see at least one route targeted to go to every 15M service mid-day.

That said, I do think the consistent span of service on major routes, as outlined in the slide below is important:

IF you want people to consider transit in lieu of a second or third car, the bare minimum is that it be operating at some level when you need it. So ditching early 'last runs' is good.

I'm less taken by pushing service further in the ex-urbs.

For sure, 2027 needs to focus on frequency.

The service hours on conventional routes were not really conducive for a day and night out in Toronto. On-Demand was a good alternative, but they frequently got all booked up. So I’m glad to see they are running until midnight to accommodate people on later trains.

Agreed, extending service to midnight will help a lot with the last-mile trips. Having said that, so many routes are in-need of more frequent service like the 920. That bus is so packed in the evenings, yet the headways are every 30 mins, and service to Scarborough ends at 10-11pm.
