Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

As stated by City Staff, the maximum time savings on the SSE will be 8 minutes. 10 to 15 mins in savings is nonsense. And of course, the 8 minutes in travel time savings does not include the longer bus rides Scarborough residents will have to the station, which will almost completely negate any travel time savings the elimination of the transfer offered.

But he is a real person. we can't listen to all these facts.

York Region paid for this portion, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

As should Toronto.

We would be paying for the DRL together . Well unless SSE is cancelled , at that point I don't see Scarborough wanting pay. Its not like we are asking Durham municipalities to fund the SSE further than the Provincial and Federal funds. It shouldn't be this difficult but the media lives to fuel a divide in this City. Vaughan gets to do what Scarborough what have already done decades ago with minimal interference or Political fear mongering

I now know why people who grew up in the City hate or are awkward with thing related to the inner suburbs. They are basically being told to and scared into thinking they will go bankrupt if we allow high quality, well connected investments. Such ridiculousness.

Joke of the year right here.

No other "suburb" or City has to deal with this level of outside Political interference and Political media interference in planning its future. Scarborough would've had SCC connected over 50 years ago if it wasn't for this same nonsense.

You may not agree because you align with much of the medias narrative. But liked I said lived all over, I didn't grow up in Scarborough & really have never seen anything remotely close to this. Its a real issue that is beyond disappointing to say the least. I feel bad for people on both sides as this nonsense has distracted people from demanding more so we can just need to shut up and build as a City. Fighting this transfer LRT plan at this stage is asking for greater trouble. The media knows this and will benefit off of the stories. Residents wont as we are going to see or Politics drop to a new low.

Scarberians should begin to boycott The Star, and make this a real funding problem for them.

The amount of hate the paper spreads is astounding.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But when a large media holding bang on this particular project, while not making a peep about the Vaughan extension whose northern section will have 1/3 of SSE's ridership, then they must be up to something.
Virtually everyone who does not support the $3.4bn subway stop and is vocal about it supports the Crosstown East and an upgraded Kennedy-STC service. The Star is calling out faith-based policy and politically-based evidence. But sure, hate.

To please a small percentage of riders in saving transferring time in building this white elephant, everyone gets screw not only in the pocket book but no funds to build more new routes and providing more service to the larger users of transit riders.

Building high quality under use transit line is a waste of money for everyone for the next 50 years, if not more. This is one of them and trying to take the line to Sq One is another. End the line at Cloverdale and Kennedy is the end of the line in the east.

The Star can be right about a lot of thing but unless they are scrutinizing both sides they are just trouble making as usual. Zero details for possible changes in timeline and cost to the LRT scheme on top of the transfers which have long been called out. They are part of a Political `team` and Im shocked that some people cant how obvious this is. Same goes for the Sun but they are much quieter on this issue.

What's the supposed gain for the Star if the subway is cancelled? And who else is on this "team"?

That picture tells me why we should stop being so damn short sighted. 50 years from now the subway will seem pretty damn smart decision. As it would have been today had Metro not been so damn short sighted against Scarborough`s internal foresight which had its own best interest in mind. Not the same outside short sighted interests as they are battling once again today. Some outsiders still think of Scarborough Centre as it was 50 years ago.

Also from 50 Years ago...

I don't agree. Vaughan is a bad idea as well, people can be against both.

To most people both are a bad idea. At this point, it looks like all three extensions will be built at some point.

It's low ridership, it's forcing the toronto taxpayer to support suburban rides, Vaughan is supposed to be GO transit's responsibility as well.

this was the original TTC LRT plan in 1969 to connect the inner suburbs with the subway before the province decided to use the RT technology and screw it up for the next five decades. if this was built we would have a connected network to build upon.

Live panel tonight, with a feed in the link below:

https://twitter.com/TransitScarb/status/846360579023552512

Even though the panel is being hosted by a pro LRT group, their intention is to educate residents about both of the transit options before them. Instead of just rallying the crowd toward a preferred plan, they will present the facts and answer questions from residents. You will hear from both sides of the debate: councillor Ainslie (LRT supporter), Glen DB (subway champion) and two York University professors.
