Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

The traffic jam is because of the Overlea Boulevard construction for the Ontario Line. It has nothing to do with the bike lane changes on the bridge itself.

100% this.

Overlea is single lane each direction right now and no pull-outs for TTC buses. So when the bus stops along Overlea, all of Traffic stops with it. There are also sign persons stopping traffic when heavy machinery need to move in/out of the site.

The traffic is completely unrelated to the bike lanes, and likely would feel worse as you'd have 3 lanes merging in to a single one rather than 2 into one, so you'd end up with a "wider" funnel.

As someone who travels this very frequently it has been completely fine until the Overlea construction switched into its current phase.

In that screenshot, the highway is red and dark red (no bike lanes on the highway) which has probably driven a lot of drivers to the local roads, which then become red and yellow themselves.

Looks like the east spit east waterfront/boardwalk is being budgeted for this year. Pickering's mayor (who has been granted strong mayor powers and plans on using them) has proposed the above be included in the '24 budget, funded half from casino revenues and the other half development charges.

The mayor is also looking to get a bigger gravel parking lot built on the east entrance of the new boardwalk somewhere in the marked section below (nuke plant south east of marked area):

Construction has begun on the new Pickering elevated boardwalk / new waterfront trail connection...

Was driving on Sheppard Ave East and can see that the new bike lanes look like they will be opening imminently!

Sheppard Ave is different than most other streets which have bike lanes because 1) 2-3 car lanes in each direction, 2) cars travel at higher speeds, and maybe most importantly 3) residential/commercial parking is off-street (this means that motor vehicles are constantly crossing the bike lanes and multiple lanes of opposite direction traffic to get in and out of parking lots).

I think these bike lanes are well-intentioned and hope they are a success, but I seriously worry about the safety of cyclists. Who has right of-way when a left-turning car/truck is trying to enter the parking lot by crossing two lanes of traffic moving in the other direction?
