City-TV & OMNI-TV's H.Q. (formerly Torch, Quadrangle)

I wonder if they will fix the name of City, which dropped City-"TV" from their name about a decade back.

I hope not. Leaving it as-is is a nice throwback to better days.

The more of this wretched thing that can be covered the better.

Giving it the ol' 10 Dundas treatment.

They actually changed it back to Citytv again in 2019.
You're right, they did! I somehow missed that. I prefer it to be honest, but it seems a strange choice in an age where traditional "TV" is less of an emphasis for companies such as Rogers. I'm just surprised someone in the boardroom didn't say "...no, no we can't have TV in the name again, as we offer a multi-platform screen service via various different distribution means. The brand is City."

CityTV and OMNI have left the building. They've moved to Rogers' 1MP campus as of today. A bit of a hole in Sankofa.

Was going to ask if the studios were on the ground floor....given the need for ceiling heights. Found the permit:

The former Yonge & Dundas City/Omni building is going to be occupied by TMU (aka Ryerson) students. Rogers is pitching in some funding for the University to occupy this space. How much is anyone's guess.
Long story short, no, it will not be restored as an Olympic building. 😂

One of the most well-known buildings in the heart of downtown Toronto is now up for sale for a whopping $34.5 million.
The old headquarters of Citytv at 33 Dundas Street East is now being listed online as a “rare” retail and office building acquisition for potential buyers.
“This is the Times Square of Toronto. It’s a major meeting point and it’s a focal point for the city,” said Nicholas Kendrew, a senior-vice president at Colliers. “It gives whoever the future occupant or the future owner is … a commanding iconic presence in the city of Toronto.”

Not sure what happened to the TMU use but this is clearly a perfect building for their journalism program.

Have a lecture hall / tv studio on the main floor, smaller classrooms on the other two floors, plus study and social spaces and cafeteria at the top with rooftop access. A podcast studio for use by any student could fill the space at the base of the torch.
