Bathurst Streetcar to Eglinton?

IMO, bad idea. They will always get stuck in mixed traffic. That section of Bathurst is too narrow for a dedicated ROW.

Bathurst LRT is possible, but it would start at Wilson subway station, go to Bathurst, and then continue north. That section has room for ROW.

They'll need to put carbarns adjacent to the Wilson yards. However, a streetcar from Bathurst Station on the 2 Bloor-Danforth line to the Bathurst Station on the ? Eglinton Crosstown could then use a re-functioned Hillcrest facilty.
 
For now, how about the Bathurst streetcar going into St. Clair West station first? It would require very few new tracks, as most of the infrastructure is already built.

I think the demand along Bathurst is split fairly well at Bloor, so it may make sense to keep the route split there, and bringing the streetcar up to St Clair West could disrupt the St Clair route.
 
1) TTC wants only ROW built these days and Bathurst too narrow for it. Running in mix traffic will have an impact on service compare to 7.
2) Operation issue for 512 with 511 going to St Clair unless you not use St Clair W station to loop. It force a transfer as well having some impact on 512 service looping west by Vaughan and not going east.
3) Having the 7 split at St Clair becomes a rider and transfer issue. Even have the 7 operating the current way will be a waste of resources and money having duel service. The streetcar will still have to loop at Bloor.
4) Where do you plan to loop the line without tearing buildings down at Eglinton?
5) If 511 went to Eglinton, the 7 would have to be terminated there and another transfer for riders.
6) How far north of Eglinton do you go before moving to buses?
7) Not have duel ends causes more issues for new lines let alone the current line and an example for a line as proposed.
 
I am not against transfers, but the transfer from the 7 to the 511 at St. Clair will be highly inconvenient, and time consuming to riders heading to Bathurst Station.
That intersection is extremely busy too. The reliability of the 511 and 512 will drop.

There is lots of space around the Wilson station, and the carbarns can be placed there if necessary.

Plus, Bathurst North LRT is not at the top of the priority list; it is Wave 3 or Wave 4. By the time it can start being considered, Finch West LRT will be in operation. Then, Bathurst can share the yard with Finch.

If Bathurst North LRT goes north far enough, then the third option is to built a yard in the Bathurst / Hwy 407 / Hwy 7 area. Currently it has lots of poorly used space.
 
DSC is right. Bigger priorities for other things. And the subway from Eglinton West to Spadina basically duplicates the route already.

The TTC can't be bothered to operate the 7 Bathurst properly, especially on weekends. I don't know why they bother to operate a Bloor to Steeles bus as half of them don't reach their supposed termini. It's not necessarily traffic (late evenings can be really bad for bunching and short turns and loooong service gaps), it's bad management.

Extending the 511 to St. Clair West often comes up as an idea, but it's not at all ideal. It requires a bit of a detour to turn south via Vaughan Road. People on Bathurst are headed to Bloor Street, as there are lots of intersecting routes to Yonge and Spadina subways.

And why Eglinton? The Crosstown LRT will be incompatable with the street railway - different vehicles, different track gauges. There's no bus terminal planned for Bathurst LRT station as 7 buses will stop on the street and go through a la Dufferin Station.

It could go to St. Clair West, if Bathurst St were renamed north of St. Clair, so a Bathurst bus wouldn't be needed north of there.
 
Extending the Bathurst streetcar north of St. Clair Avenue West should have been done in the 1950's, when the Toronto Transportation Commission was expanded and became the Toronto Transit Commission. However, "riding on rubber" (buses) was the "way of the future" in the 1950's. Many other routes should have been streetcars, as well, starting in the 1950's, but are too late now. Transit City was a start, and only a start, which the current city hall administration is trying to derail.

I have thought of bathurst being extended to eglinton as well because of the Crosstown. I do think that dufferin is more likely to happen. It would need to be underground from st cair to eglinton because of the hills but it would even make sense north of eglinton all the way to Wilson station. Our streetcars go east and west but historically not so much north and south. With the new street cars I hope they take a look at least these routes.
