She was alive when they voted. No one knew she would no longer be alive on Oct 24. If she had died in October 25 and had won, there would be a by election because the incumbent, not the candidate, had died. It’s a rare occurrence for any of this to happen, but there are rules in place.

That is true BUT if she did win a majority of votes or at least a significant portion than there should be a by-election.

Advanced voting dropped 30% this year, and they are telling everyone at the polling stations she has died.
Can't imagine there will be a significant portion of ballots for her unless nobody goes out to vote on Monday.

Got to love Google...

When you google Gary Crawford (Ward 20) the first thing you see at the top of the page is a link to his competitors website.

Not familiar with Mark Grimes. Good or bad?

I would lean bad. Not atrocious, right-centre, but lazy, mayoral acolyte, chronic under-achiever.

Morley deserved a chance here.

@Richard White will wish to take note of Gary Crawford's less than huge margin of victory:

Of note, both candidates under Crawford were left-centre...........if you combine their votes, Crawford loses.

Beradinetti's vote would be more likely to go to Crawford.......making this a nearly dead-heat race in terms of the right-left dynamic on Council.

Decisive Victory here, though w/very low numbers, suggesting Cynthia Lai was probably nominally re-elected:

Of note here, this is a clear allegiance switch from the right of council to the left-centre.
