Might have to do a drive by but at a guess i'd say maybe a dozen Greek food places remain on the strip now. Half of which are at Danforth/logan. I honestly cant remember the last time i knew of a Greek restaurant opening there, certainly nothing in the last 5 years. Pape now has a better mix of...

To be honest it all went downhill not long after the shooting. The closures of Cafe Frappe, the Greek nightclub (Fantasia) and Logo Bar in 2019 was the beginning of the end as those 3 places would bring a lot of the young Greek crowd to Danforth/Logan. Then Covid accelarated everything. The 2...

It cant be underestimated what the closures of frappe and logo have done to the Greekness of the Danforth, they were always open until the early hours of the morning and they would attract a lot of younger Greeks to the strip. By extension of that they would help other businesses as well, it was...

Athena bakery at 598 Danforth has closed its doors, Covid has really done a number on a fair few Greek businesses, was a good period of stabilisation a few years back but that’s gone out the window now, The Danforth/Logan block is interesting, on one side you have Alexandros, lukumum...

It was a little less but the reality is the difference between 1.4 mill and 1.2 mill wont stop you from being suffocated from the crowds lol. The festival itself continues to have a major identity crisis, billed as Toronto’s largest Greek street party yet the entertainment year on year becomes...

Any chance of either of those 3 establishments closing up or are they genuine renovations? Pretty sure i heard caffe frappe would remain just with new Greek owners.

Fotia closed in late November i think. They had many complaints about being too loud. The Greek musicians i believe now perform at politeia cafe/bar along pape and logo bar and hunters on the danforth, plus a new place in Scarbarough. Actually they use to perform at gazi/fantasia/kefi and...

Aegyptus is how you say Egyptian in Greek, most likely the owners are Greeks who are from Egypt. I’d expect a mixed menu of Egyptian with the standard Danforth Greek fare.

Did a bit of social media digging on these places it appears as though most of the performers are from Greece.

I have noticed the increase but always thought it was more 2nd and 3rd generation Greeks that have moved into the area as opposed to actual immigrants. The word has definately spread amongst the Greek community that Pape is the place to be, everything feels fresh.

Whats with the big surge in live Greek music? In addition to fotia you have politeia and barcode on pape both appear busy. Include the ones on the danforth i havent seen anything like this since the 90s.

Five O Seven clothing had a great run, would have been there almost 20 years. Were whispers when they closed in April that they may consider opening again along pape (standard trend for independent Greek businesses these days). As for whats replacing it....

Ouzeri will be now known as Soulas modern Greek cuisine, expected to open in a week or two. Had heard the space would be taken over by the owner of pan and the name Soula gives that away as i think thats the wife of the pan owner. Good luck to them.

Pots and Pans always looked like a ripoff of Athens restaurant just east of Pape. That type of Greek restaurant is more likely to succeed around the corner in Pape Village these days. The others survive and thrive because they have been there forever and are institutions on the strip, they also...

Ouzeri is going to be taken over by the owners of Pan, not sure when it will reopen probably a slight delay with recent tragic events and the site being a memorial at this point, renovations of some sort will take place but I think the Ouzeri name will be kept, best wishes to all businesses on...

https://www.blogto.com/city/2018/06/pape-village-torontos-other-greektown/ Nice to see Pape starting to get some attention having really come alive in recent years. Great diverse mix of places and Greek business has just exploded. Cafe serano already proving to be a big hit.
