Canadians consume less meat than Americans?

I usually pay $5.99 for 2L of milk... but I take the comfort that they are of better quality.

Toronto Five St Joseph | 160.93m | 48s | Five St. Joseph | Hariri Pontarini

North of King st, downtown Toronto pretty much stops at Yonge st all of a sudden. Development is just stating to spread to Church st in the past couple of years (areas immediately adjacent to Bloor not included).

    TTC surface stop spacing

Great news. When will they eliminate the senseless stops on the 500 streetcars? 300-350 meter is very reasonable.

    TTC surface stop spacing

How so? Provide some numbers, I mean in total amount not the misleading subsidy per rider (oma cost isn't proportional to ridership).

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I agree comparing Beijing isn't fair but nor is Taishan. It is a nondescript non important Chinese city no Chinese person ever talks about (nobody in China gives a damn about it really), while Toronto is the financial centre, Ontario capital, alpha city. A more fair comparison would be Nanjing...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

and comparing Tonronto to KC, which has 460k people on 830km sq, is? We have 2.8 million on 630km sq.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Totally agree. The 505 and 506 examples are perfect! Huron is like 120 meters from Spadina for Christ sake! Our streetcar system is excellent, but the stops are killing most of its attractiveness. And it's partly the reason it's schedule is so unpredictable, Especially considering Toronto is...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Downtown can be closer, maybe 300-400m. For example there should be only one stop between Yonge and University or between university and Spadina, do you agree? Our bloor line stops are excessively close to each other. Even Paris with five times the population density isn't that close.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

What's to wow about? Beijing registered a total ridership of 3.5 billion in 2014, just the subway system alone. And as someone mentioned, two of its lines exceed the entire TTC system. Feeling wow facing Kansas City is ... Sad. The TTC does not wow anyone.

Toronto Five St Joseph | 160.93m | 48s | Five St. Joseph | Hariri Pontarini

In that case, I have to agree with you. There are definitely things the city can do to avoid all condo podiums being dominated by bank branches - the AURA example is horrible. On the other hand, there is no difference between a McDonald's and a mom/pop noodle house, and developers should not...

Toronto Five St Joseph | 160.93m | 48s | Five St. Joseph | Hariri Pontarini

I am not denying that, however, as I said, not every street is as expensive as Yonge st. Small retails have plenty of room to grow, just not on Yonge. Bloor between Avenue Road and Yonge doesn't have any individual small retail, does it? That's called market economy. We should stop having this...

Toronto Five St Joseph | 160.93m | 48s | Five St. Joseph | Hariri Pontarini

I not sure about that. How to achieve that? How is the planning committee going to say, if you have a chain restaurant, I won't approve it; otherwise, it is OK? How is a McDonald's fundamentally different from a single burger restaurant? We are going to punish a business for being a chain with...

Toronto Five St Joseph | 160.93m | 48s | Five St. Joseph | Hariri Pontarini

The fact is, you can't dictate what can go under those condos on Yonge st. It is driven by market force - is the government going to say only non-chain restaurants and shops can rent those space, but not Starbucks or banks? Subway and McDonalds, just like others, are just regular retail, which...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

And more. The streetcar stop should be 400-600 meters apart (traffic light or not). I think it is stupid to argue since there is a red light why not make a stop for people? Should transit stops be based on this? Streetcars miss green lights because of those stops all the time, especially on...

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

I just booked the Madrid-Barcelona AVE ticket for next month. 624km in 2.5 hours. Toronto-Montreal is 542km, and now takes 5 hours. The AVE cost me 30 euros, or $44 - much less expensive than our current slow VIA. Wondering how much Tor/Mtl will cost if the trip takes 2.5 hours.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

NFITZ, you are really good at defending and rationalizing whatever disasters TTC achieves, since every delay or failure seems justified to you in one way or another. This is why the TTC still seems acceptable to Toronto riders. TTC should hire you as their PR person, no kidding.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

That's quite high, considering the median family income in Toronto is about $70,000. I wonder how many of those who commute long distance on the TTC really make less than say $35,000 and therefore have trouble paying for tokens. I also wonder how many of those who complain TTC is unaffordable...
