    Toronto Eaton Centre

Can someone tell me where this Cucinelli rumour started? Vince Camuto seems to be expanding pretty rapidly - Sherway is also getting a store and there's already one at Yorkdale. He's the brains behind Nine West if I'm not mistaken. Or I should say, 'was' the brains behind Nine West - he just...

Fogal has pretty much closed everywhere. It seems to be a deeper company problem, not specific to Toronto.

Right, and I wrote to Moncler and Bvlgari last year and asked them if they planned on opening in Toronto and they both replied with a 'No'. Retailers aren't always interested in sharing their plans with complete strangers...

How do you know that? A broker representing them says otherwise.

I'm sure it did too, but Yorkdale offered the right sized space for retailers. If Bloor/Yorkville had the right kind of space (i.e. more spaces in the 3,500-5,000 sq ft range) you would have seen the same influx of retailers in Yorkville as there have been at Yorkdale. That said, I think...

To avoid some confusion, one other thing I'd like to point out is that these lease rates are always quoted in USD, so $291 USD is about $330 CAD right now. This is always the problem with these kinds of surveys - same as cost of living ones - that benchmark everything against the USD.

Well, in speaking with C&W brokers who work Yorkville, peak rents are still hovering around $330/ sq ft for prime spaces on Bloor. You have to remember that what these reports cite are not the average rent on the street, but rather could represent a single transaction. Either way, I'm still...

That's not true. Rental rates have gone up to around $330/sq ft and landlords are in no hurry to lease their space out to just anyone. There was an entire article about that very thing not too long ago. Tiffany is a huge space for one retailer to take so either it gets divided or it gets...

Most of the time this comes down to space, but I suspect we'll see another run of major luxury retailers announced for Yorkdale fairly soon. Of course, I'd rather see Yorkville continue to be THE go-to destination, the trend seems to be, if a retailer can't get into Yorkville, open in Yorkdale...

Frees up more space at Hazelton Lanes. This is good news.

Good riddance! That space is almost perfectly configured for another luxury watch brand to just step right in.

I'm with you. I'm kind'a tired of hearing everyone wanting an Apple flagship on Bloor, especially that part of Bloor. If anything, an Apple flagship should be at Yonge-Dundas Square and Union Station.

Looks like it's just a homeless barrier - for now anyway. There may be a tentative deal in place and this is just a way to protect the property for a potential future tenant.

Does anyone have the actual CRU lease plan for the Atrium? With the unit numbers?

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Based on this floorplan, it looks like it would be going between Guess and Long Tall Sally (in the 'Coming Soon' space) with Dundas frontage perhaps... http://www.atriumtoronto.com/images/directory_new.jpg Can't imagine that it would be any other Muji with that kind of space.

I personally think this is great for the street. The reason so many new luxury retailers are opening at Yorkdale is because the mall can accommodate the space that several of these brands are looking for. Bloor doesn't really present that opportunity in a lot of ways, but that seems be...

It may be considered luxury, but I don't see the space converting to mid-market. Unless it's a COS or Superdry or something that needs that kind of space. Which would frankly be disappointing.

I don't think it's that at all. Their lease is expiring and it's a huge space that I'm sure the landlord would rather see go for a much higher price to a luxury retailer. You have to remember that that lease was signed during the last recession-ish so rates would have been much lower. If...

Hmm - then I'm actually stumped. Maybe it's a local name who's opening a licensed branded store? I had heard that the Four Seasons was being exceptionally particular about the retailer (both type and name) that they wanted, so I can't imagine them going with anything too obscure. Maybe...
