Talk about wasting money on scraping every minute out of these dinos. If theyre going to sink money into these relics you might as well invest on meaningful upgrades instead of just a mere paint job

To be fair, where are they going to get new locomotives from? Siemens appears quite backlogged, and are the EMD F125 and MPI MP54 even in production anymore?

Because any upgrade that you add for emissions reduces the fuel economy of these things.

The MPI MP54s were discontinued by Wabtec/GE few years ago I think. The EMD F125s should still be offered by Progress Rail. And I don’t think GO wants the Siemens Chargers due to the colder climate here with what’s happening on VIA Rail and Amtrak in the northern parts of the U.S.

Which really is a shame. What will happen once the mp40s near end of life? Will we keep rebuilding them for the next 50 years? We are literally the thrift hoarders of the g20 when it comes to rail infrastructure. It's shameful that we let ourselves get like this from decades of neglect.

As the different GO lines each achieve their "Mission", we'll need fewer and fewer diesel locos, with the target being only the Kitchener Line service needing them.
We've not being told a timeline for this "End State" but there seems to be a focus on launching Electric trains on the Lakeshore lines initially.

The factory the MPs were made in (Boise) was divested by Wabtec. That said, they likely still have drawings/designs for both MP54 and HSP46 and could make them in Erie for a large enough order - and post GE merger they might push the latter a bit harder if a Tier 4 version of that engine will fit.
Will be interesting to see how Exo gets on with Charger but they don’t pull 12 packs IIRC?

Milton and Richmond Hill have no electrification plans so they'll be needed there as well. And unless they get some nice dual-mode locos any service at Aldershot and beyond will be diesel.

And this would also apply to the Bowmanville extension, which isn't currently planned to have OCS. Current plan is diesel powered express trains to Oshawa, then stopping at all stations but buying dual or tri mode locos / train sets might work.

there you go... so there is an inherent need for diesels for the next 50 years minimum. are we going to keep on rebuilding the F59s over and over again for the next 20? that is why we need a local passenger rail industry to get going again now that siemens is no longer a reliable/trusted source.

If the screws met spec when it was built, but sheared now, then how is there a lapse back then?
It's the ongoing inspections that are suspect.
