GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Seen at Union today - thank goodness, the 300-series/4000-series seats are so ridiculously painful to sit in. I get lower back pain after sitting in them for 1 minute or so - none of the seats in the previous 200s/2000-28xx cars have ever bothered me.

Yes I complained on twitter a few times, and evidently I wasn't the only one. This is very much needed, and a welcome change.

How many are on order right now? Are they replacing cars or new cars?
There are 200? new cars on order starting 2018 and are supposed to be completed in early 2020, if I recall correctly. If you going to expand the system and provide more service, you need more cars and locomotives. Some of the existing 200's cab car are still in service as cab car, but the others are coaches at this time and can be put back into service if needed until they are refurbish.

The existing fleet is being refurbish yearly, not retire until they are about 50 years old.

2000-2079 will be the first batch to retire around 2026 or sooner, follow by 2100-2155 and 200-214 around 2033. 10 of the 2000's were sold in 1996 to TRE.

What we don't know thanks to Ford, how many more cars are needed to expand the system as well the type of vehicles to do it. There is a plan in place to do it, but need Ford to approve it and we may know more this week or at budget time next year what going to happen to that plan.

By the end of 2019 and early 2020, Thunder Bay books will be empty of orders as it stands now.

These cars are arriving as part of a 125 car order announced in August of 2016. I've never seen a breakdown for it, but the 15 last accessible cars (4505 to 4519) were part of it. All are for expansion.
