Toronto Eaton Centre

A lot of mobile phone shops don't need a lot of space but the third floor usually gets more expensive chains though..

Makes sense. But as you stated, I think its unlikely it'll be a mobile store.

Passed by the mall today. La Swiss' old space is becoming a Birks (Birk's old space is now a J Crew - under construction).

Does anyone have stats in Canada (recent ones) of the sales per square feet for say the top 10/15 malls ?

Canadian malls are about $600/sf (all types of quality). Top malls will near $1000/sf, with the top 3 over $1000/sf.

I know this is not specific to Eaton Center, but it looks like Mango has closed all their Canadian stores except for Montreal. Interesting - I wonder if those stores will be closing too. Is Mango suffering world wide?

I thought they always quoted Yorkdale as being the highest in Canada !

It's always been Pacific Centre, but the top 3 keep shifting around. Yorkdale will certainly get a huge lift after the expansion opens for business. Watch for Chinook in Calgary to run up the list in the next 12 months.

Pacific Centre is a much smaller mall than Yorkdale and Chinook. Thus, the mix of stores might be higher end, with less weaker players pulling down the average.

It is a great mall nonetheless. Too bad it isn't bigger.

Pacific Centre is almost 1.2 Million SF, not a small centre. The big tell will be how the 650,000 SF Sears space gets chopped-up and re-merchanized going forward.

You're right. I got it mixed up with another mall.

If the Sears space gets a better performer in there (and there is no reason why it wouldn't, or else CF wouldn't have paid out millions), the productivity of that mall will soar. Other contenders for the top crown such as Chinook and Rideau (also part of the Sears buy out) will also benefit with higher sales/sf.

Thanks for posting these numbers Bauhaus!

Out curiousity I googled to see how US numbers compared. I was only able to find numbers for 2009. Interesting nonetheless. Our top three are only behind Caesars in terms of sales psf.

Forum Shops at Caesars, Las Vegas, Nevada. (100 percent; $1,400*)
Ala Moana, Honolulu, Hawaii. (Occupancy rate: 95 percent*; sales per square foot: $1,125)
Mall at Millenia, Orlando, Fla. (94 percent*; $1,000)
The Mall at Short Hills, Short Hills, N.J. (94 percent*; $1,000*)
Fashion Valley Mall, San Diego, Calif. (99 percent; $810*)
Westfield Garden State Plaza, Paramus, N.J. (95 percent; $702)
Queens Center, Elmhurst, N.Y. (98 percent; $876)
Roosevelt Field, Garden City, N.Y. (96 percent; $810*)
Westfield San Francisco Centre, San Francisco, Calif. (95 percent; $675)
Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale, Ariz. (95 percent; $618)

I'm interested in knowing what they are putting in the sliver of a space next to Juicy. I don't know who will want such a thin store.

Before I read Bayer's post I had a hunch that True Religion would take the thin space on the third floor. All of their stores I have visited in the US are small like that. They have a wall of jeans on either side, or together on one side, with mens and womens denim and a few tops and that's it. The Yorkdale location is also like this.

The Shoppers Drug Mart grand opening in the new space is now scheduled for Thursday, July 26, 2012. Most of the stock has disappeared from the shelves in preparation for the new move.
