St Lawrence Market

Hold on, you spent enough time in a suburban mall next to two highways, surrounded by parking to know that? Did you have a fever?
Hey now, Sherway was my go-to mall during my childhood (even my love for MOTU was born there in 1982!) - I spent a lot of time there and have a lot of fond memories of the place before it was ruined by successive renovations...

Yikes, that's the former Hiro Sushi, correct? I've always been slightly alarmed that the building looks quite crooked, I wonder if that's the cause. If you look in in this streetview image you can see the leftmost second floor window above the red facade slumps dramatically downward on the left. But I'm just speculating, the cause could be something else entirely.View attachment 541956

Scaffolding went up today so it looks like they’ll be attempting to fix the building.

It is part of a row (and a very old row) so it really DOES need to be fixed. I doubt it could be demolished without causing its neighbours to collapse too. The back wall (possibly of an addition, not the original building) was demolished a while ago and it too now needs work.

EDIT: Here is a photo

So the retail space on Jarvis south of The Esplanade is ready to open. Looks like a nail salon/hair salon. Taken 30 April.

They have had signage saying ":Opening Soon" for about 2 years but it does now look as though it is ready to actually open - though I can see no recent building permits. It is a 'spa' but it's ghastly location - on west side of Lower Jarvis in Market Wharf so i really wonder if they will get any customers - certainly not many casual passers by!

New condo sales centre (I suspect) at 141 King E, next to market lane, facing St James Park. Doesn’t look open yet. No hits on google for Missoni Sky so I have no clue where this tower is proposed. As far as I can tell online Missoni is the name of a textile brand.

I haven’t seen any indication anyone is working on those units.

I’m curious as to when people will start moving into those ground floor fishbowl units.

I've also been watching these retail units for any signage (nothing but "for lease" so far) and checking the building permit db regularly, and nothing. Right now this building is a giant black hole in the middle of the neighbourhood. I was hoping for something like a return of the long-gone Sobey's, but looking at the shallow depth and awkard proportions of these units I'm not so optimistic.
