Along The Queensway corridor in the South Etobicoke area of Toronto, Reina Condos by Urban Capital Property Group is now rising above grade. Designed by BDP Quadrangle, this mixed-use development is quickly taking shape since work began onsite in late Spring of 2022.
The design incorporates rhythmic undulating balconies on its north elevation, while the strategic series of step-backs on the south transition the building's bulk down to the neighbouring low-rise residential backdrop while providing terraces for Reina residents.
When UrbanToronto last provided an update on construction in July 2022, the site was in the preparatory stages for excavation. Fast forward to today, and the initial storeys of Reina Condos have begun to assert their presence in South Etobicoke.
Looking northeast across the site in July of last year, we see the materials and machinery of excavation, including steel I-beams laying the ground for shoring work.
Looking southeastward in December, 2022 we have a scene of early construction activity; the crane stands sentinel, its boom pointing northwestward over construction crew members below. Blue and green de-watering conduits coil around the perimeter, while the foundation walls are emerging from the depths, in preparation for the building's vertical climb in the subsequent months.
In April, 2023 our westward view reveals rows of structural concrete columns, each with vertical rebar protruding, all waiting for the next level of the structure they will soon support. The south side displays timber formwork for walls as part of the foundational construction.
Venturing into the end of July 2023, a view across The Queensway from the end of Penhurst Avenue offers a glimpse of the first two storeys of Reina Condos emerging above the ground. A closer inspection reveals shoring posts ready to support forms above, portions of the concrete walls, and the promise of more vertical progress.
September shows much more progress, with the north and east elevations each boasting two storeys. An array of shoring poles supports the forms, while the crane is poised for its next hoist. At ground level, hoardings adorned with renderings offer a preview of the architecture that Urban Capital is bringing to the area.
As the first two storeys of Reina Condos make their presence felt above grade, the remaining seven storeys are anticipated, with the condominium on its way to a final height of 30.95m. Set to provide 200 residential units in a prime location on The Queensway, the building is the latest of Urban Capital's projects in the urban transformation of South Etobicoke.
