Toronto City Council began their July, 2022 meeting on the 19th, the last normal Council meeting before the 2018-2022 term ends. The meeting is packed with development applications so that new development is not held up entirely until after the election.
In this article, we will go over the fate of applications from the Scarborough section of the city that were dealt with quickly, with no debate, following their recommendation for approval at a recent Community Council meeting. Development applications from other sections of the city will be covered in their own articles.
Zoning was approved for 2151 Kingston Road.
The 10-storey condominium and rental building will contain 163 units. Designed by Kohn Partnership Architects for Altree Developments, it will be located on the south side of Kingston Road between Glen Everest Road and Cliffside Drive.
The zoning was also approved for 448 Markham Road.
Four blocks of three-storey townhomes housing 42 units total, designed by Icon Architects for Insoho Developments on the northwest corner of Markham Road and Blakemanor Boulevard, in South Cedarbrae.
Official Plan and Zoning By-Law Amendments were approved for Scarborough Town Centre Block C.
The 35, 41, and 45-storey purpose-built rental buildings will house a total of 1,285 units and offer pedestrian mews at ground level. Designed by BDP Quadrangle for Oxford Properties Group, the development will be located next to Scarborough Town Centre.
1910 Eglinton Avenue East also had Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments approved.
The 40-storey mixed-use rental building will contain 387 units. Designed by Turner Fleischer Architects for Yorkreal Holdings, it will be constructed on the northeast corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Hakimi Avenue, in the Golden Mile.
30 Gilder Drive had its zoning approved.
The 25-storey condo and affordable rental building will contain a total of 263 units, designed by Kirkor Architects on the northeast corner of Gilder Drive and Midland Avenue, in Eglinton East.
65-99 Silver Springs Boulevard had Zoning By-law Amendment, Draft Plan of Subdivision, and Rental Housing Demolition Applications all approved.
The rental complex will consist of five rental buildings and townhomes offering a total of 604 units. Designed by IBI Group for Starlight Investments, it is on the northeast corner of Finch Avenue East and Birchmount Road in the Clarks Corners neighbourhood.
Zoning was approved for 4415 Sheppard East.
The 11-storey mixed-use condominium building will have 239 units. Designed by IBI Group for Wintrup Developments, it will be located on the southeast corner of Sheppard Avenue East and Fulham Street.
The Official Plan Amendment was approved for 5 Corporate Drive.
Towers of 38 and 44 storeys are proposed to contain 778 units in total. Designed by WZMH Architects for Kevric, the towers would be located on Block B of Scarborough's Consilium Place Lands, in the Scarborough City Centre area.
Markham and Dunelm had Official Plan Amendment and Zoning Amendment Applications approved.
Designed by RAW Design for Options for Homes, this complex on the northeast corner of Markham Road and Dunelm Street in Scarborough Village, includes townhome blocks plus mid-rises of 8, 15, 19, and 20 storeys, with a combined total of 780 units.
U of T's UTSC Instructional Centre II had its holding provision removed and its zoning approved.
The five-storey building will include institutional, office, retail uses. Designed by CEBRA architecture and ZAS Architects, for the University of Toronto, it will be located on Military Trail between Ellesmere and Morningside on the growing north part of the UTSC campus.
And finally, 25 Sewells had its zoning approved.
The two 9-storey mixed-use affordable housing rental buildings will accommodate 318 units in total, designed by SvN for Brenyon Way Charitable Foundation on the southwest corner of Sewells Road and Brenyon Way, in Malvern.
